Very trippy visuals, if a bit bright. If nothing else, this level is beautiful to look at. However, the gameplay leaves a lot to be desired in my opinion. It gets very boring very fast. The minicube mixed it up for a bit but then it reverted to simple jumps. On top of that, the star part is very frustrating because it wasn't very clear to me that the stars were obstacles or that it was free flying. Not a bad level, but I think it needed a bit more gameplay wise for me to think of it as great.
I had saw maybe a few seconds of this level some months ago, when I found out that it got rated, but I never really bothered to give the whole thing a look, and now that I have, I'm very very impressed with what Kiinoe did here. This level, to me, is sort of like their big magnum opus, because ever since 2.2 dropped, I noticed that they had been experimenting a ton with shaders and effects, and this level feels like one big project to show how much they learned from that experimentation, and I really like that about this level. Everything about this level is powerful in what it does, fitting with all of the other visuals, and has substance in that it actually fits with the song, and adds to the overall playing experience throughout its entire length of about 5 minutes. It's an absolutely beautiful example of what I mean by song representation.
That said, I can't comment on the gameplay much, given that I haven't played it, but right off the bat I feel like the part with the stars rotating everywhere about 3 minutes in could be a bit of a pain to go through, since they're sort of spread out everywhere and it seems to be very easy to accidentally hit one if you're not absolutely careful at all times. The ending sequence of spikes also tends to set me the wrong way because of the fact that both the player and spikes can become hard to see as you're jumping over them.
Past that, though, Nubivagant is nothing short of a masterpiece. I'm really happy to have gotten a chance to see it in its full glory, and I personally think it was lowkey scammed out of an Epic rating, but it is what it is, and the rating itself doesn't influence the level's quality one bit. Awesome level.
(also fun fact!: i was thinking about this level's name while i was doing my first ever speedbuild, and decided to name it "Navigant", which soooorta sounds similar to this level's name if you think about it hard enough :p)
HELLLLLLLLLLLLLL YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
From what I can tell, the song used in this level is about a cat Cacola used to have who died.
Anyway, this is a really cool level. The design is pretty minimalistic, but the effects and the atmosphere make up for it. The gameplay, the song, the deco, the subtle camera movements, everything works together to create this feeling of returning home. The only issue at all I have with this level is that it's not immediately apparent that the part with the giant stars is freeroam; other than that, this is one of my new favorite levels.
