does a shocking amount with such minimal composition. the structures are always interesting, even in the opening stretch, and the layered progression is really engaging and meaningful. really gets you thinking about the widespread use of terms like "bare" and "empty" as inherently negative observations and how useful those criticisms really are (or aren't!) in level critique
I love the execution in this level a lot, the way the 2.2 features are implemented are done very well, and I love how polished and generally well made it is. Levels like this are always really nice to see nowadays and I will forever remember them. The gameplay can be weird sometimes a bit for me personally as I am still not that used to 2.2 mechanics that mess with the camera, but overall I do really like this level.
I got surprised by this level upon release, I was getting accustomed to 2.2 levels sacrificing their flow for the sake of forcing in the new given features somewhere, but line level managed to adapt to the new update without feeling like a complete mess. The aesthetic feels similar to that of vib-ribbon, rather than having a bunch of structures being scattered around the level it focuses on just having one large connected obstacle you have manoeuvre around. Every one of the few design choices the level makes feels so deliberate, the level builds up slow to introduce you to the main gimmick of the level, that being the bulge effect that’s put over the entire screen. The effect gets wilder as the song starts to take it up a notch, it starts to feel you’re playing drunk the way the structures jump up and down. To even further empathise on the changing pace of the song you also start to see little stars appearing in sync with the newly introduced beat, it’s just these cute little details that makes this level go from a silly afternoon experiment to an actual well rounded project. The gameplay is also super fun and works really well with the bouncy nature of this level, it feels like a mountainous obstacle course of some sorts. I hope wless tries to make more gameplay-oriented levels like this in the future, because this was a very enjoyable experience.
