I worked on this one! One of my first megacollab projects, was really fun although demanding.
I am really proud of the team with this one. I think this resulted in a really sleek, bubbly level with lots of energy. I had some issues with some gameplay patches but overall a really solid experience. I do wish certain parts like cyto's and wik's were fleshed out a bit more, but knowing the circumstances and time limitations that occurred, I am happy to say that they still hold up well in conjunction to everyone else's parts. This may be one of the most consistent megacollabs out there.
I guess some diary writings for my own part, I feel like this is still the best classic section I've made in GD, although I don't want to go through hell that was implementing the 3D perspective shift. I think this part really evolved me from a generally standard creator to a really skilled one. Special thanks to Ilrell, Arclia, and especially Alchery for helping me reach my full potential with this one.
Probably overall my favorite level of 2024. Glad to see representation of the best part in the thumbnail ofc, i really like this level tho. I think this level has probably the strongest progressions in the game. The level is kinda separated into 3 different acts to where it compliments both the song and theming. It starts very lowkey and switches between more representational art designs and abstract modern for the first 2 thirds of the lvl. The last third of the level however probably presents one of the coolest switch-ups i've ever seen a level do with this kind of visual quality. I love the 3 part run of vaulity, alchery, and breadking's parts so much. The design style of this run of the level is nothing like what ive seen in the game before, especially the second half of alchery's part. I also love bloomng's part at the beginning as an opener. However i'd say a few parts right before the switchup don't really resonate with me visually tho. There are also a few gameplay concerns which make the level feel awkward to play at times. Still overall i really like this level
I like. With this and a few others I have reviewed I think I may be a little biased towards and against them due to reasons, but I think it is fine enough to give thoughts even if they aren’t very applicable. I see a lot of people dislike the transition between the more pop-art half of the level to the cyberpunk side. I never quite understood this, as they are two sides of the “urban” theme that was intended. One being the “bright” side and the other being the more “reality?”-like one. It also fits the song exceptionally better than if it were only one. Fun level, works for what it is. I feel it could have done a little more though conceptually. It feels like a showcase of parts rather than any sense of progression, besides the flip to “reality” before the last four parts. Alch’s part is so good too oml I will die.
Even if you did not excessively use 2.2 features like this level does, you can still mess up and make a mess of playability in your level.
