My temple is calling for its Noel Electra stupid likely ai-generated cover art
Cracks me up every time I think about it because of the ridiculous song that Trevor described to me as “almost Djent”
The biggest Serponge flop in many years, unfortunately.
In creator's defense, the song is awful, making any level to that kind of track would be absolutely torturous, especially given time constraints and theme restriction. From the very start Serponge was dealt a losing hand of having to build a hype christmas NCS level, which explains why the level is an incohesive disaster of random ideas that did not work. The gameplay is also a complete mess, had lots of skips and secret ways on release and is not fun in general.
This level is a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine. I can critique the gameplay as multiple people have done already, but I'd be wasting my time. In short, it's not good. However, the level makes up for it in the pure absurdity of its premise. This level tries to be super epic with the train wreck, but it just comes off as tonal whiplash compared to the Christmas theme it starts out with. While it is definitely a strange scenario, the complete tonal shift of the song, the deco, and the gameplay are at least all done in tandem so the level still feels right. Whether this switch half way through the level was a good idea...ehhhh probably not but it at least makes the level a memorable experience.
I really like Serponge you know, but this is not it. One of the worst examples of "impressive 2.2" levels so far. It has all the problems of these kind of levels and more. The decoration is far from my favorite from Serponge. This new style that he developed since the beginning of 2.2 do not click with me whatsoever. It’s well made sure but it looks to realistic and look goofy, amateurish, even stupid at times, especially in this level. The gameplay is horrible. Nothing except for the 1st few parts feels natural in this level. It gets better with practice but sadly, that doesn’t fix the horrible flow of this level. There is one cutscene in this level that lasts for too long and you are thrown into some of the most garbage 2.2 gameplay ever with stupid arrow triggers that make no sense, random reverse orbs, wave spam out of nowhere. Yeah this level is definitely not for me and easily is the worst Serponge level in a while, which is a shame because I liked some 2.2 levels that he made and I know a lot of effort went into this. I miss old Serponge though
Very overhated. Its not that bad of a level, its just that the gameplay is quite blinding and gimmicky at times. But it takes a bit of learning to get it all down.
