I'm all for levels which choose to embrace their silly side (see "Imagination Nation" by squishyj as an example), but sometimes, you just need to learn to dial it down. I've not been a fan of "boogie" since it released. It's a level which tries so desperately hard to be cute and quirky and whimsical that it's nauseatingly painful to play through. It's been described as being "BUSSIN" for girls, although the main difference here is that at least "BUSSIN" was aware of the fact that it was a cringe, brainrot level; what makes "boogie" so frustrating is how wholly sincere it is in trying to be as sickeningly cute and adorable as possible. It might be one of the most punchable GD levels ever made in how 'uwu rawr so quirky ^-^ ♥︎' it becomes, and this is coming from someone who normally loves sincerity in levels. The level genuinely buying into how cute it's trying to be — unlike "BUSSIN" which at least knows it isn't exactly the gold standard of 21st century humor — does nothing but repel me. In fact, it makes the level even more artificial. "boogie" is a level extremely reminiscent of the 'katy t3h PeNgU1n of d00m' copypasta. It's so tryhard and desperate to be quirky that it just leaves a horrible taste. The level is pretty much an annoying, overstimulating TikTok edit designed to capture the attention of 6 year olds. It's devoid of any self-awareness and I personally just despise it.

"boogie" is just so much worse than "BUSSIN". At least "BUSSIN" was ironic and somewhat aware of how stupid it was. "boogie" is a level completely convinced and deluded by its own cuteness.

Starting off this review I want to ask something: when does art-tracing start to be morally questionable for a videogame-looking art platform? I wasn't able to answer this question so I left this review due ever since, but not long ago I got a realisation over an unrelated situation: This piece doesn't try or want to be a level, but rather an edit made in GD.

Boogie is a level made by Connot as an event level for the NCS x GD album track rollouts. Connot, although already being an established creator for a long time now, gained a lot of notoriety and controversy for releasing BUSSIN, a megacollab made for the NCS gauntlet themed about brainrot memes, and certainly one of the levels with the most mixed opinions in the history of the entire game. According to Connot, Boogie was set to be the "girly" version of BUSSIN. You can see this because theres a lot of nerdy references of anime culture and flashier, pinkier colors. The moral discussion regarding this level (and by extension BUSSIN but lets put that level to a side) is it contained a LOT of traced art from other pieces, wether be official anime scenes, fan animations or memes. And you could really make an argument in that subject, but personally, I think this is one of the few exception where this kind of moral question can be abolished. Why? Am I being an asshole? I want to make my point straight and clear so hear me out.

This level doesnt have much gameplay other than the start, where we are in a calm beach with a slight synth tune that evokes the feeling of summer, and a random part in the middle. The rest is just an edit. Usually, when you are making an edit for tiktok or instagram reels, you may take a lot of stuff you like and put it together in some happy or energetic song, say, a nightcore song for example. This is exactly what Connot is doing in this level, with the limitations of the editor. This is barely a level, but a tiktok video. This might be questionable for some players as some of them just like playing the game to its core and really just reject anything that doesnt feel like a "true" geometry dash level, and thats perfectly fine. I personally love this piece, I get a lot of the references and it really stuck on me. Typical of a male to love a girl-oriented artwork. So to sum up, questionable as a level, awesome work as an edit.

One of the larger long-term questions of our life-times is what to do with the radioactive waste-product produced by nuclear power plants. These plutonium rods will continue to emit deadly radiation long after they have served their use and long after anyone who coexisted with them will have decomposed in the dirt. With no real solution found, yet, we simply leave the burden to future generations, passing this waste on to others as time's arrow continues to move. Even buried, encased in concrete, and with all neutralizing measures in place, it does not matter, it will continue to poison anyone who comes in contact with it, its half-life lasting beyond all our lifespans. Even in a world with no need for energy, even when the human beings relocate to another planet, this nuclear waste will continue to release its radiation, buried in the ground. Its effects will last much beyond the scope of everyone who has worked with it, and everyone who will even know it. It is a poison that we sowed, and will reap for eternity, even much beyond when it has served its use. Its effect will last forever and can never be erased, only mitigated as much as people care to try. We cannot erase it from our history, no matter how much we try to. This level, and especially the fact that it and its marginally less dogshit cousin Bussin are the two most-liked legendaries in all of GD, is the same, I believe.

I think it's safe to assume the creator of this level made this to vent over the fact that he will never get a girl in real life

BUSSIN is one of the worst Geometry Dash levels I have ever played. It's obnoxious, soulless, derivative, and just obsessed with the idea of chasing "quality". The song is awful and annoying, and the generic gameplay does nothing to help with the level's enjoyability. It's a soulless, bland product of a level.

Which is why I'm shocked that connot's follow-up to BUSSIN is so great. boogie is oozing with fun and whimsy. It's flashy, but its flashiness isn't where the substance of the level lies. The heart of this level is in simple, cute, colorful fun.

A lot of people have called boogie "BUSSIN for girls", and to be honest, that's kind of affirming to me in a way--but the comparison isn't inaccurate. It's definitely possible that I'm being pandered to, but that doesn't make the level not cute. It's over-the-top, but in a way that isn't obnoxious.

And boogie knows where to tone it down. Being a 2 star, there's a lot less pressure to decipher the gameplay--you can just relax and let the level play itself, pretty much. And the places where the level is slightly more involved and requires actually clicking to avoid obstacles (astonishing for a 2 star, honestly), the visuals are chill and so pleasant. Essentially, you can actually see what the fuck is going on, which is a plus.

My favorite part of the level is absolutely the colorful paper craft part. It's a style that's been done many, many times before, but connot takes it to a new level with 2.2 features. It's simply beautiful, and I couldn't hate it if I wanted to.

I'm so surprised to find that boogie is one of my favorite levels of 2.2 so far. Everything comes together to tickle my brain in the perfect way. Are there things I'd change about it? Yeah, absolutely, but I can't ignore everything that's so appealing about it. This level rocks.

Also it helps that the song isn't annoying as fuck like BUSSIN
