but Mr im high XDDDDDDZS
I've seen a lot of people miss the point regarding this level, and I'd like to take the opportunity to correct it.
"Space I guess" is not about the theme of Space itself, nor is it about Philosophy. Rather, this is themed around the study of space, ie, Astronomy. Once this critical difference is understood, one can then finally understand what the level is really about.
With this distinction in mind, where this level really shines is its incredible planning and execution of its creative choices and its attention to detail to adhere to the theme it chose to represent.
Take for example, the vertical stairs section, where the apple orchard tree progressively goes from the flower stage to the fruit stage, ending with the apple falling from the tree in a clear reference to Isaac Newton, or the ground bending from the apple referencing Albert Einstein's Theory of Relativity, to the orbit referencing Kepler's second law, and so on. Even the entire text, which people also didn't quite get, is verbatim sourced from Carl Sagan's famous book "Cosmos", which is the where the level gets its majority of its inspiration from.
Gameplay wise it's nothing too difficult (It is just an 8 star after all) and the jumps are well indicated. Do give "Space I guess" a try, it's an excellent example of what having a clear vision for your level and planning can take you, and it certainly has my backing for being one of the winners of the Space Gauntlet contest.
the "philosophy" is juvenile at best and the level would have honestly been better if all the textboxes were filled with conlang or random letters instead, but when the rest of the level is this stunning I frankly don't care.
call me a traitor to the artform, and you know what, you're right. I'm an ipad baby ten times the age, and I'm unashamed to admit that I'm wowed by brittle kitsch of faulty texture. even if it leaves me with no memories after playing it, even if I will forget what this level looks like by tommorow morning, the immediacy of the moment was fond enough for me to come to this website and give it a 7. for today, space I guess is amazing. from the downy recluse of this e-sojourn, space I guess is amazing, the apple has been cast.
Many people find the usage of text in this level corny and unnecessary, but I really disagree! My rule of thumb usually is: if you need to use text in your level to describe your intentions, you shouldn't use it. In space i guess I think it just complements the level in a great way! It's obviously not perfect and I think some lines could've sounded less implicit but I generally did like the way it's used. I particularly love the "is it ____ shaped?" part.
I really don't have a lot to say that the level itself doesn't really portray. It's a great take on the space theme for the contest and includes many mathematical and physics references about how the universe works. I'd probably love this even more if I was a physics student haha.
Great level, not a big favorite of line for the contest but I'd still rather this places high over some of the atrocities of this contest that are the last minute entries.
