One of those types of levels completely and fundamentally ruined by one aspect
Would have been a mythic 10/10 if it wasn’t for the part with the rotated screen
Controlled Chaos is an absolute masterpiece, and as of writing this, probably the best extreme of 2025 (May). The way the level executes the computer theme is flawless. Every part feels like something totally new. The decoration elements are very unique and have rarely been, if at all seen before. The usage of 2.2 shaders and effects is nearly flawless too. I'm a big hater of 2.2 camera movements but nothing is bad in this level. The gameplay is quite unique in many parts of the level too. The level has the perfect length, and an absolute banger as a song. Song representation is on point as well. If I were to beat an extreme demon, this would be one of my top picks. Amazing Job to Zipixbox for an absolutely underrated masterpiece.
Cooled down on this a bit since. It's still pretty good; no time is wasted here and Zipixbox does a good job on iterating on the main theme and creating new intriguing setpieces. I'm just not really big on this level's use of 2.0 tilesets, 2.2 effects, its lack of color variety, and good color work. While there's a lot of details to distinguish between parts, there's also a lot that blends together in a way that many other "retro" style levels do and I think it really takes away from this being a truly great level. That being said, that lack of color variety makes it so that the striking red ending really pops, which I think is enough to sway me back on the positive side.
Really good work.
