go make blender renders instead of gd levels god damn
I consider this to be a massive step up from Rage Quit, and this is something that I recognize Bli for. While Rage Quit had more of an interesting idea, it really lacks that Bli feel he had in his other levels like Change of Scene and Absolute Garbage. I get that Rage Quit was made for a cc where the idea is just to make Stereo Madness visually appealing, but that's not gonna justify how I felt with the level. The hate is understandably justified, but I don't really see that as the worst thing in existence, even if a Polterghast tells you otherwise.
Now with Final Orbit? Again, a massive step up from the previous level. This level has that Bli feel Rage Quit wish it had. Far from Bli's best work imo, I'm honestly still waiting for something that can beat Change of Scene or Absolute Garbage, but this is still pretty damn solid level. One thing I really like about it is that they got mordroc to make the gameplay, and as such, the gameplay flows pretty well. Honestly, the next official CC or any other CC you parttake in, if you do not feel confident into making the gameplay, get a gameplay creator to help you out. They know more as to how to make a level properly function and flow better.
I obviously can't talk about Final Orbit without mentioning the opening cinematic at least once. If MSM were to go ahead and make a full on movie (not full length obviously) with the knowledge he had when he worked on Final Orbit, I could guarantee that can get Mythic (Mythic Auto to be specific). This is way too good for it to be in an actual GD Level. 3D modeling, Ray Tracing, Dynamic Lighting, the works. If it can fit with the features the 2.2 editor has, it can be possible.
In short, yeah... Final Orbit is really solid.
I just realized i dont hate the realistic style trope, i just hate Bli's style.
The intro sequence is super sick ! I really liked it. Sadly, I don’t think it’s necessary to have smth like this in your classic level, it’s just a huge waste a time for the creator and for the player.
Thankfully though what we get after that is some cool gameplay by Mordorc7 the goat ! oh and ig bli is in this too. Far from the best visuals from bli imo, it’s well made for sure but i don’t understand where he is going for with the ideas here. I guess he wanted to convey to the player the last memories of a man who is gonna drop dead bc of a meteor or smth. But those memories are super random and they don’t feel like "final moments" like why the fuck would I be remembering a random whale in my final moments? Why not my family or some shit like that? Anyway, the decoration is not the best from the guy but at least, the gp is fun as expected from a layout creator
Even leaving aside the unforgivably long intro, this level is just incredibly repetitive. It cycles through the same few backgrounds, probably to save on object count or something.
A 90 second intro is pretty annoying to have to sit through. The gameplay from the drop onwards is very fun.
I think that ever since bli released Rage Quit for Waboo's contest, it made it clear to me that most of their appeal only came from flashy detailed visuals and """mindblowing""" effects, and for those reasons, and considering that I enjoy levels more that have real substance to them, I feel like this level shouldn't appeal to me at all - but even after rewatching it over and over, it did. At least, it did visually, I'm assuming I can't run this well enough to give a proper gameplay judgement. The usage of shaders sorta throws me off, but I feel like when I look past that, this level does quite a lot of things right, and even though a lot of what you see is very typical of bli at this point, it sort of speaks to me, and I can definitely get behind it. fortunately, I don't think this will absolutely sweep the competition, given the really unfortunately unfitting cutscene, and the gameplay (apparently) counteracting with the really good visuals and all, but it is a really nice level regardless, personally. :p
