Another revolutionary level by FunnyGame, and is one of his most influential works to date. This was the first level to do a glare effect, the first level to be a travel level, and the first level to do many other small things that were all first done by FunnyGame. The gameplay in this is extremely fun despite it having a few small issues within it, but if you can get past those (as it does get consistent) then you will really enjoy this level. The visuals within this as I have already mentioned before are revolutionary for its time, and the variation and optimization within this for 2.0 is insanely impressive. Back in 2.0 the object limit was only 30,000 objects, which is the case on why this level is so impressive. FunnyGame was once considering extending this one 2.1 released to use the full song as well, but it would have been a risk he wasn't willing to take at the time.
Such a fantastic experience, I dont have too much to say about it since it's already so widely known what makes funnygame's work so remarkable, but that doesnt mean I love this level any less. Steampianist has always been one of the greatest artists on newgrounds, for a while unrecognised, but funnygame took an initiative making the most gorgeous travel level in the entire game to one of their songs. The progression is out of this world, not to forget the countless amount of brilliant ideas that get completely overshadowed by all the trivial documentation on funnygame’s breakthrough discoveries. Alike death moon everything works together flawlessly, somehow still far surpassing the former, the level feels so serenely colourful despite being completely monochrome for more than half of its length. I love this level to death
Rate I would give: Feature (Mythic if it existed back then)
How is this the first review of Lonely Travel??? Absolute Garbage has 14 what are y'all doing
Anyway Lonely Travel is my 5th favorite level. The gameplay is really second half heavy but I will forgive it. It was SO unique for its time, being one of the first to focus pretty much entirely on the story and progression. The way some colors slowly start to appear near the end is deadass one of the coolest things any level has done 😭 I always like when a level does its own thing instead of just being another GD level and Lonely Travel is like the CEO of that. 96/100
