contrary to its reputation, i think it's best to think of this level as funnygame's 'early update' level, as this came out literally a couple weeks after 1.9. his stuff right before it i definitely like more as a whole and what came out after includes some of the best levels ever made. while even at its best (aside from both of the glow object ship parts, the red laser and the rainbow ones) other funnygame levels after do it better, it's still an incredibly iconic and influential level. 1.9 update is revolution, after all
While not as consistent in quality for Funnygame's standards as what would come later in the update, Revolution at large is a joyous celebration of a massive turning point in GD, and justifiably wildly influential.
One of many classics that showcase FunnyGame's uniquely innovative spirit during 1.9. So many fun and interesting ideas for effects in this one, including in the ever-so-iconic red ship part, the rainbow ship part that immediately follows it, the ball part after that, etc. The song choice and representation is also especially great here; it makes the level feel like it is a revolution. While there are other FunnyGame levels that I would put above this one, Revolution is still very memorable and a solid entry in his legendary catalogue.
FunnyGame is in contention for the best creator of all time, so I surprise myself in not liking this level nearly as much as everyone else, even if it's still good. Some parts are in contention for the greatest of all time, like the red laser part, but other parts like the dual wave just feel so standard and out of place in comparison. Those bad parts made me lower on this level in the past, but I now feel like the good parts do a lot to make this level a net positive.
blehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
