"I built a level" is a very beautiful and heartfelt love letter to Geometry Dash as a whole. It might be a little outdated but that doesn't keep it from being a very powerful, genuine and earnest tribute to a game that's changed so many people's lives. It's a level that comes straight from the heart and while my view on this level may be slightly tinted by nostalgia (especially as this game's been with me for a period of over 7 years), its emotional core is undeniable. The sincerity behind "I built a level" is one of its most deeply affecting facets. It's very rarely that a creator manages to fully spill out their heart and soul into a level they make. Even the title "I built a level" — while seemingly simple on the surface — shows just how personal and intimate of a level it truly is. It's a deftly touching and profound level that is built off the fabric of fond memories and emotions. It is seldom that a Geometry Dash level is actually able to evoke such potent emotions, but "I built a level" is captivating in its sincerity and emotional depth. It's such an amazing, beautiful tribute to a game which has been a cornerstone of my life for so long.

I haven't really thought about this level since I was 9 or 10. Now looking back it's aged really well, and the trope of "GD inside GD" used has become a rarity nowadays instead of being commonplace like it used to be. Feels really genuine in its presentation with it being quite subtle and creative

Saw this level as a kid, stuck with me through all this time. In games theres always something in a tier above S and this is one of those things

This used to be my #1 favorite level in the game. As my tastes have changed it's definitely lost that spot but regardless it still remains a 10/10.

Right off the bat, the effect of the tablet starting up to play GD shrunken down is amazing, and there are so many little details even in this one part. The fact that the LDM is called "change graphics", the death effect, the little fingerprints in the bottom right. The gameplay here has only basic portal sync, but that just lets you roam free and click how you want to like in a lot of pre-1.9 levels (which I assume was the point), there's kind of a reason everybody likes to simultaneously do that one UFO click as a note plays and you cross through a glow pillar, and frankly stuff like that makes up for any boredom from playing the intro. The cycling designs in the robot are great, and again it feels a lot more authentically like an old level than a lot of other "old-style levels". All of this was already amazing, but come on, we all know where the real focus of this level is

The drop really is just something special. I really don't have words that can describe how it feels in general, but I'll highlight a couple details. Chances are you've seen all of these icons/buttons at least once, but a lot of them are ones you rarely think about, so it feels a lot more genuinely connected to the game. Also, the fact that so many objects are interactable really makes it all feel alive. Just beautiful really

This isn't a 5 because I feel tame about this level. In fact, I feel very conflicted. It makes so so many decisions that I can't stand. The long intro, the lack of clarity as to what is and isn't solid, the dumb cartoon art style, it should all combine to make a level that I hate. But it really doesn't, because even though I don't usually like these kinds of levels, I can tell that this one has a soul. It doesn't just aim to be impressive and flashy. The middle robot is especially understated compared to the rest of the level. There are so many small details which show that a level of care and fidelity went into this that isn't present in most levels, my absolutely favorite being the little smudges on the iPad that appear whenever you jump, indicating that a finger is pressing the screen. They're so faint, you can barely seen them, but Player Time still included them and I think that's beautiful. It's a shame the level isn't fun to play, because it truly could have been great if it were.
