one thing Marathon excels at is progression, and matching its song's intesitiy within its visuals and gameplay. as the song progessively gets intense, the gameplay speeds up, and the pulses become more dramatic. in terms of pure visuals, i appreciate how weo stuck to a deco style he was more comfortable with decorating, and i'd say it compliments the gameplay in creating a nostalgic style. sadly, the gameplay, while fun to learn, is not something i would recommend. the extreme difficulty is achieved mostly through chokepoints, including a 60fps frame perfect at 71%, making this very boring to play. the length also slows progress to a crawl, as the average attempt lasts around 45 seconds. i would only recommend this to those that can handle xxl's, and those who aren't bothered by chokepoints. overall, Marathon is a level that executes it's idea well through visuals, and although it's gameplay could be improved, it remains a one of a kind expirience.

GAMEPLAY

With a simple but effective decoration style, consistent and fun gameplay, and an amazing atmosphere, Marathon is a must-play for any fan of memory levels. As an entry-level extreme, Marathon will put your endurance to the test, while making for a memorable and fun experience. The main fault with the gameplay is the awkward chokepoints randomly scattered throughout the level, like the ones at 27%, 33%, 46%, 57%, and 67%, but if you master these timings it will be a smooth and satisfying playing experience. The level looks much more intimidating than it actually is, as I can assure you that you'll be able to play it blindfolded in no time, such is the consistency of its gameplay. The decoration pairs incredibly well with the song, creating a feeling of progression throughout the entire level, with an amazing climax at part 23. Less is more, and Marathon puts that concept to play as few levels can.
