The awesome, alien visuals in every section go a long way to keep Project MANDELBROT fresh even when the layout slumps a bit in some parts, but I still can't help but feel like there was supposed to be a more coherent sense of progression through the level. I don't know too much about the Mandelbrot set, but I do know that it's been mapped extensively enough that there are catalogued landmarks pretty far in - I'm assuming that subsequent parts are chronological as you zoom in to the set, but while the song swells and contracts, every part feels basically the same in terms of intensity and how peculiar the patterns get; you could probably arrange them in (almost) any order you want and the experience would be basically unchanged.
Terrifying in a beautiful way, that feeling of megalophobia you get from watching this level is seemingly unmatched. The level itself is a surreal acid trip, the slow pacing giving the level an uncanny and unsettling appeal. The art in this level is masterfully crafted, to a degree where the traditional GD assets contrast with the designs in a way which amplifies that unsettling feel. The heads of the structures feel like that of a creature looking down on the player as if they are in some way sentient, the level feels sinultaniously lonely, but as if there is another life form present, that life form being the depicted structures. I cannot deny that this level is certainly a masterpiece.
will review this one soon probably
wtf were in those brownies mane
Rate I would give: Mythic
Furorem has a fascinating style and this is their best work. It's one of those levels that look so unlike a standard GD level that they sort of hit the uncanny valley. This one is a must watch for absolutely anyone. 93/100
