Bit more info on my thoughts on this: subjects have a primary color and a secondary color. The primary color is stronger/more prevalent/whatever, and it's generally better to refer to a subject by its primary color than its secondary color.

Math - Primary: Red. Secondary: Green.

English - Primary: Blue. Secondary: Orange.

Science - Primary: Purple. Secondary: Also green.

Social studies - Primary: Orange. Secondary: Yellow.
