finding the right song for your geometry dash map is one of the most essential steps in map creation, if not the most.

the in game system for browsing songs does not bring out many options, so a lot of creators end up choosing a song they heard in another map, a tune from some of the popular musicians in the community, or even worse, a song from the ncs music tab. this is not that big of a problem, but theres so many untapped potential that could be uncovered with more accesible ways to find different music for the geometry arts.

so here I present you a list of the esoteric methods of browsing the newgrounds audio portal

  1. the classic one. search for the profile of an artist you already like and check out their other songs

  1. search by tags/genre. open the audio section, click the search button, and use the tag search bar. this is useful for finding genres that are outside of the usual electronic music styles that are popular in newgrounds. such as dream pop, ambient, post rock, etc.

  2. one step ahead. instead of browsing the profile of artists you like, browse the favorites (faves) of the artists you like. you can easily do this, and is a great way of finding quality songs that you wouldnt find through a search.

  3. two steps ahead. search some of your favorite newgrounds songs, and browse the profiles of the people who have reviewed them positively. you may find someone with a similar taste to yours, and they could have some good stuff on their favorites for you to discover.

  4. gambling method. go to the audio portal, and just browse the latest songs that have been uploaded. it may take you some time to find something good but you can never know what to expect.

  5. description keywords. search for an artist of any kind that you like in the audio portal, and set the advanced search options to only "match against: description". you may find a song that has cited them as an influence.

  6. nong. its way easier to find a good song that isnt on newgrounds, especially for music-enthusiast people. for me its kind of lame to do this, since its not convenient at all for the people playing you map, but its nice to once in a while make a map with a song from a bigger artist that you like.

these are some of the methods i came up with and oftenly use. feel free to discuss and contribute your own. thanks for read
