(relistened to the album and im p sure im wrong ab song genres and cityfade being chicago house (forgive me!) nd 2012 2017 has never been a 'deep house' album nd nico has a bigger indie appeal than he does with dance music nd like yadda yadda oh well it still doesnt fit ! like at all and its tagged as 'organic house' on rym but thats kind of baloney maybe microhouse or something its house probably it is house music . i typed this entire review at 11pm while trying to be abrasive and start shit so i hope you either forgive me or stick with me for this one thanks or im going to cry

but pretend like cityfade being chicago house is my hot take for the day but my actual take is that 2012 2017 is idm

, and maybe it is deep house but not just the song but the entire album (which isnt deep house anyway) is much more melodic than garden variety deep house and nico subverts typical traits of whatever genres he mimes the entire way through or something but ive had a bit of time to rethink about this and the argument about song rep is at best kind of dodgy but i still think this is ugly as shit and boring/incoherent and this is where i find roundabout ways to talk about it. thank you. also i tried to beat this and it was even worse that way and i have a giant hate boner with seeing good dmusic i like being used in nong levels because they typically have terrible song rep and i am rambling by now but like thank you i guess i donnt know. thank you . thanks ,)

(and if ur curious ab anything related to the club i think you should read https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/329133.Love_Saves_the_Day not that it makes you good at telling between genres or something bc im not but it makes u enlightened and its a great book i own it and the sequel at home author also wrote a v good biomemoir on arthur russell that i unfortunately dont own yet nd its getting from barely related to completely offtopic at this point but im in a good mood right now and will grab any opportunity i can get to shill about that book in particular)

OK uou can start reading now

The song representation is awful. (i still think this) Baffles me how you can somehow be able to think that Cityfade is remisniscent of wacky indie game forests and a city in the sky or whatever. The only explanation I can think of is that you never thought further about the album and understood its wider context within club culture.

Which is fine, you don't have to. I welcome outsider interpretation of art. That might even give me a perspective I've never even considered.

But Cityfade doesn't do the song justice either?

I've watched and played it so many times trying to understand where the hype comes from because it always came off as extremely bland to me. The theming and general style is not one that plays together very nice with repetition, they may look good there's no subtle beauty to be seen and appreciated beyond the surface level in these structures. You get their deal like... by the second time you see it again. Yet this level reuses assets so much, in combination of how fast they wear out, it just becomes boring. The level has a grip in how it composites itself horizontally, but it doesn't matter if each section gets old halfway through due to how little vertical movement there is. Change the way the birds move, change the ways the lights color, anything. Because most sections just stays relatively static until it moves to the next one, I don't feel like I'm traversing through a city, I just feel like I'm playing through a series of non-sequitur obstacle courses. That's not to say that can't work, but this is not a level where it would work. It's not 'CITYFADE Travel'.

A lack of real development wasn't the only thing that hurted this level. The background and air decoration is obnoxiously simple. There's no atmosphere here. The custom background is so ambient and faded out that it makes no practical difference than a gradient. That gives certain sections so much dead air. It just feels unfinished. The background is as good as nonexistent.

That's beyond just how obnoxious the style looks but that's mainly personal preferences.

The gameplay is... okay? It's pretty easy but there are so many parts that just spams orbs and they get so weird inconsistent it makes me wonder if MaxxoRMen tried at all. Certainly he can do better than this? He is a perfectly capable creator.

It's not enjoyable to watch and it's not enjoyable to play. Who is this for?

( i know theres a couple ppl obsessed w this review in th negative sense yeah I hope u have ur closure i guess ths ones out for u yeah ? yeah . )
