The song really isnt that bad, other than that I dont have much more to comment than what has already been said before. There is a lot of personality put into this level, I've never seen this neon tribe aesthetic pulled off so well before, and especially the later half is a completely surreal experience.
A very formulaic level, i usually dont take a deep interest in levels that are as effect oriented as this but in this case there's a very strong foundation hidden behind the flashy appearance. I've always been a massive fan of how zhander structures things out, it's both seamless and at the same time always filled with charm. Aleph 0 seems to try and demonstrate this consistency all the way throughout, it's built to a pretty unorthodox song and mimics its essence to the best of its ability, everything feels very carefully placed. The level couldve potentially taken more risks to truly separate itself from the song it uses, but for whats worth, this is still pretty much a flawless level in my eyes.
Grew on me quite a bit, I may not think too high of devin’s unreasonable approach to level creating but I believe this level to encapsulate his artistic soul pretty well. There’s a ton of effects and ideas I can appreciate, and despite it having the typical incoherence of a devin level it still has a lot of good volume to the environments and the way they’re structured. Most likely devins best work, I wish more of his levels used songs this good.
I can’t act as if I know more about the level and the context surrounding it more than I do, but I appreciate this level for what it is. I suppose not all vent levels need to dive deep into the topic it’s trying to portray, just the tone of the level alone sparks a lot of emotion already. It inspires me in a way, but I’m not entirely sure to what use yet.
Watching this when it first premiered was an unforgettable experience, I already had been a fan of queso's work by that point but this is where I truly came to respect him as an artist. The color palette was what particularly caught my eye, the blend of deeply saturated red and blue was something that I frequently saw back in my imagination at the time and seeing another creator establishing on that vision so well was something that took me away. I love how at the start of the level these colors slowly bleed out onto canvas more and more as you get further into the part until it fully breaks open, it feels as if a bunch of the compressed energy slowly creeps in on you until you're consumed by it. The level empathizes the intensity of this energy even further by letting it destroy the level over time, only to try and grab itself together once the noise seems to exhaust itself, and returns with the burning blue and reds one final time before it puts the level to an incomprehensible state. The ending is a very nice touch to the level as well, regaining all of its structure back, free of all its vibrant colors, before going into a solid nothing. Despite the level lacking any sort of real narrative it still feels like youre going on a journey, it's such a good display of colors playing their own role in the creating of a scenario and I love the level for it despite being an unplayable mess.
The birth and trendsetter of a building thesis that has brought the community forward once again in a time of despair, the overwhelming amount of flaws this level holds do not distract from its significant creative vision and the technical advancements following its creation. The level is characterized by its overwhelmingly difficult drop in contrast to the parts preceding it, it takes shape as some kind of examination chamber with oddly repetitive gameplay to fully put your endurance and input control to test. Theres a good bit of jank present in both the visuals and general layout, especially with the release of 2.2 the gameplay had to be butchered by it. But with the existence of an2echamber fixing most these issues, and the original work having made such a strong identity for itself, it can continue to shine as bright as it ever did
