Rating Curve

As far as these pseudo-layouts go I actually think this is near the top end. The colors are nice, the song is nice, and generally I do think it is fun to watch compared to something like Trollmachine or Bliss or Karma. If you count more effect heavy instances like Aleph 0 or Omorfia then sure, this doesn’t hold a candle to those, but those set a pretty damn high bar anyway.

Possibly more aptly titled than it should be. I like Nebbles’ parts quite a bit but Epiclight’s are really awkwardly colored, moreso than I imagine was intended and ultimately not in a way I personally find appealing or intriguing. This was also a problem in their previous demon years ago, but this is pretty comfortably better than that one once 33% is reached. The long and short of it pretty much is that I think Nebbles did some heavy lifting here.

Really impressive shader use for how much of it there is, does an excellent job emphasizing the level’s aesthetic as a grainy old film. I only wish the first half was as nice looking as the second.

Not quite as evocative as it was on release, but certainly is part of a huge turning point in expression and experimentation within the confines of GD, alongside levels like Cement and Cold Sweat.
