Dead Device. Where do I start…

Dead Device is an interesting level… in some ways. I think the best way to summarize this level and levels like it such as Rage Quit is a “visual spectacle”. That’s it. There’s nothing else to the level other than it’s visuals legitimately speaking. And I honestly don’t like this level but I don’t hate it. You gotta do what you gotta do to win 1000$ and if this is what it takes I can’t blame the creator. On the other hand I think IMOXI is a kinda underrated creator ignoring this level here.

In terms of this level’s visuals too I feel like it’s trying too hard almost to be really flashy and eye catching. I also think the ISPY part was kind of weird to just throw in there. Maybe it was intentional because we all know Nexus likes feasting off of anything with an ISPY looking eyeball in it at this point. If that’s the case then I cannot blame you honestly that’s fair game. Other than that I really think it did not need to have so much going on like all the camera effects (I think some are kind of extra) and it kind of ruins this level how overproduced everything starts to end up feeling with the visuals for me. I still think the visuals are nice though and I can see the appeal for them. They’re personally just not for me in this form.

In regards to gameplay bluntly imo there is nothing to say regarding gameplay. And that’s where my real explanation begins on why I don’t like this level. Besides it being a visual spectacle of a level there is truthfully nothing else noteworthy within this level other than it’s visuals. The gameplay is pretty boring with multiple 20 second max cutscenes and a few inputs shoved in the mix. In a similar case with Interstice by BPI when it first came out I think this level would’ve been way better as an auto level in regards to gameplay.

I just really enjoy feeling a real experience while playing levels this level to me doesn’t offer that again as it’s nothing more or less of a visual spectacle. This is more a level to watch and not play to me.

A message to the creator though if any real hate is coming towards them as I’ve seen countless people insinuate. I’m sure it exists but from what I’ve seen it’s mostly just opinions. Please do not let anything go to your head. Criticism is important for growth as a creator as a person and really in anything that takes time and dedication to perfect in your image. Nobody is above it either. You can even openly criticize my review and I’ll understand it. But also remember that it’s entirely up to you to take criticism up to face value. Some people will just say shit that you might not care about some people will also force you into their own standards of perfection even when it harms you or the creation. Only take the things you feel are important or are important.

Alright that’s all I have to say and sorry if some things don’t make sense. I’m not the best at putting my thoughts into exact words and sentences despite everything I do.

Honestly. A level that I hold at the highest possible level of respect. I love everything about this level; it’s overall composition. I do think the gameplay has a few - maybe 2 or 3 things I’d nitpick on from some parts but that doesn’t change how much I love this level.

I don’t know what else to say. I suck at reviewing levels I absolutely love because, in my eyes, of course, there’s quite literally nothing to say. I think this is one of the levels that can define late 2.1. And imagine WELL RESTED with 2.2 features. Particles... Could go crazy imo.

I don’t know what else to say other than how disappointing you are to watch. Be better in the future.
