Everything I wish FRX was. Everything in this level, be it gameplay or visual, is to make the vibe feel like the Junk Realm from the third acceleracers movie, I think in this aspect I really am proud, it can be messy, it can be unreadable, weird perspective in some blocks, It doesn't matter, I had the freedom to do whatever to achieve my goal to revive the feeling of that unfinished 2005 racing series that made me who I am today. The stylistic choice of going design-art with a bit cartoony and bold outlines was choose just for the same fact above. I am personally not a fan or realistic styles (because at least imo it clashes with the gd style, like cubes, orbs and portals, it's weird), but some people call this realistic? sometimes this community is really weird to understand, I kept using basic gd blocks to keep the gd feeling, even tho with colors, effects and movements, it drifts a bit, but still is the basic gd blocks.
Things I added just because I wanted to add some kind of storytelling:
- You start at the morning and through the level the day the level shifts time of the day, finishing at night
- The player also goes with some distinct environments of a junkyard
Desert Westland > Entrance of the Junk City > Blast furnace > Junk City Central > Trash Piles > Arena > Wrecking Balls > Heavy Machinery > The Ducts > Energy Rooms > End of Junk City
Some References I put through the level
- Acceleracers realm entrance portal
- Beat up Reverb (Acceleracers)
- Broken Fiat Uno
- Junkrat's Ult Phrase (Ladies and Gentleman start your engines)
- Swamp Realm Accelecharger
- Eustass (Useless) Captain Kid Damned Punk
- Crash Bandicoot Nitro box
- Junk Realm Mechanoid Destroyer
- Fortnite Megalo Don
- HW Acceleracers adaptative tire
- Acceleracers Kurt's Mega bass trash pile
- Borderlands 3 Arena
- Acceleracers Old Smokey
- Acceleracers Flathead Fury
- "Hit the apex"
- Acceleracers Wrecking Balls
- Borderlands 3 Cyclone
- Overwatch Junk city
- "xqcl"
- Teku Symbol
- Acceleracers JR End portal
The random paths are also something taken from the movie, where the 8 drivers split paths to try to achieve the ending first.
People may not like it for diverse reasons but I still love my jr.
I recommend at least giving the 4 movies a try, it would def get a better experience if you watch it, if you don't find them you can dm on discord and I will gladly sent them for anyone!
Came back to this god forsaken site to give at least my experience being a part of this project and to say a bit about how I built my 2 parts, which being IRIS and DROPPER, this thing went from a quick platform collab about each part a different vibe to this MASSIVE project with a .gmd file being over 10mb and a NONG file with over 300mb lmao, I absolutely love when projects go way better than expected.
With this being my first platform collab experience it was something to remember, I was given a small pre set engine to use while making my part, this being the double jump, vines, hitboxes and gravity (maybe), I was told I had to make a part with a specific vibe or theme of my choice, there wasn't chapters or groups of parts yet, so I had the freedom to create whatever I want in the platform editor, only limitations were the engine and screen borders, which were not a problem at all lol.
IRIS
The first part was meant to give a dizzy feeling for the player, so i tried to be as much chaotic with the designs and bg effects, I wasn't really sure what the gameplay gimmick would be like in that part yet, but I was sure of what I was looking for in the bg, I didn't know the specific name of the weird pattern at the time so I just searched for "pewdiepie pattern" (I know now that the name is dissolve or liquify) went experimenting a bit with different forms of objs in the hexagon tab until I found that weird spiral that with just some copy pasting, rotating and shader effect was the closest I got while also keeping the obj density low, pretty good if I had to say anything. After watching it repeatedly I had the idea to make the gp rotate each time the player jumped, It would be pretty funny and challenging to watch the player find their way through a completely shitshow of rainbow and spirals lmao, but the first small problem came up, which was trying to get the player to not slide during the rotating gameplay, the first attempt I did was with force blocks it didn't really work, but the second try was a bit risky but it worked really well, which was making a lot of small blocks rotate themselves and not changing the orientation, at first it lagged like shit, but after some optimization it worked really well, at least for most devices I tested, and there would also be zipix opt after everything was done zipixbox a goat for that fr. the second half of my part was not that hard to make the path to, since most of the gp is static and I would only had to make the difficult part rotating, the design and effects were mostly me just fucking around the shader editor and finding cool things, the infinite sphere of the bg, the area trigger block design, everything there was actually just me going "random bullshit go" and finding cool things. Yes i put my logo in there because I thought more people would do it too and I thought I would only make 1 part in it lol. The song choice was after everything was done, I personally dont think it impacted a lot since I really feel like it matched the vibe I tried to create, the song is from a futuristic arcade racer called Distance, and I recommend a lot if you want to enjoy a creative racing game with a absolute BANGER of a trance soundtrack; and also the name IRIS is not about the verifier GDiris, but actually is just the latin word for rainbow.
Second part scrapped idea: One Piece
Dropper wasn't actually my first attempt at making a second part in DON, the second idea I had was making a one piece themed part because why tf not, the part was to be played inside the thousand sunny and your objective was to get as many meat pieces for luffy so he would throw you at the water and you would fall to fishman island and there you would have to solve a poneglif puzzle to get access to the next part, the thing is, I kinda lost motivation to work on that part when I noticed I couldn't make something cool while also keeping the obj density low, it would have some little details like luffy just chilling at the front of the sunny, and the other strawhats in the other parts of the sunny, well that thing would def require a lot of groups, channels and time, which I honestly didn't had a lot sadly. Funny fact, I didn't tell most of the members of the project what my second part would look like, just a few, It was going to be a surprise but I just couldn't finish.
DROPPER
At first the theme wasn't supposed to be around Minecraft, I got the dropper idea after watching the last ep of the latest demon slayer season, which is were all of the characters start to falling in muzan's infinity castle, idc if you dont like DS, or not a fan of aura farm and hype moments, it's cool for me. After that I had the idea to make a dropper but if it was themed around hat scene, idk it would feel weeird, so I tried to think about other themes I could use, at the end there was 2, Happy Wheels or Minecraft, the choice was obv, since i had a excuse to use C418 musics lol. Making it a modded mc instead of vanilla was way fun to do than normal mc, and I had just finished playing All The Mods 8, So I was kinda fresh of ideas, cataclysm and tinkers construct being two of my favorites because of the diverse and freedom choice of weapons and powers. Another funny fact, most of the project members also didnt know what my second part was, really nice to see their reaction for the first time seeing the full part. Third and final fun fact, I was running out of time to finish my part since once culuc's dortnire were finished, no other parts could be added to it, or so I thought lmao. 5 MORE PARTS TO DON
At the end, I whole heartly thank wesp and TM for allowing me to make not one but 2 parts, one of them being so titanic it took the whole Y axis of the editor.
