Why does RobTop have to bait us with the Explorers song in the GD music library I want to use it as my menu song so badly
This level made me laugh but there was not much effort put into this since it is a joke level from RobTop, the busiest man on the planet. It's fine for what it is, it's a relatively harmless level that was made for laugh, nothing much to say here.
As a standalone level this is fantastic. The simplistic block designs, deco-wise the focus of the level, are very clean without looking too dated or boring. The gameplay is very fun and readable. I love the backgrounds too. The ship part in the climax with the black hole is built up so well. I also like the text drops in this level. The atmosphere this level builds is also really cool. As a level, the only complaint I have is the swing section. Lyal, please learn how to make swing gp, it is painfully unfun.
However, as a Space Gauntlet entry this level irks me. You know how people complain about those epic rated entries that are just levels with realistic black hole/planet art? This level is the exact same but now the block design is simplistic. Removing those awesome space-themed backgrounds would remove nothing from the identity of the level. It feels like Lyal was making a level syncing to JNATHYN's Noir and then, seeing the Space Gauntlet announcement, quickly added some cool space art to his level and submitted it. Lyal's previous gauntlet contest entry, Towerinator, at least centered around ruins and towers. For The Beyond, however, the space theming is not important enough to this level.
Still, amazing level for what it does right. I want to see more from Lyal.
This level is hiding from the Hyperbolus community, but soon everyone's gonna find out and review bomb the shit out of it
I know this made for a Waboo contest but this level doesn't do much with it's fantasy theme even if it looks cool. My biggest gripe however is the song choice. Why would one choose a Terraria Calamity mod song for this level if it doesn't remotely sync with the gp? The song should represent the gp more than the deco, it seems here the song was chosen to represent the gp only. It makes the level a lot more boring than a properly synced GD level. Other than that I must admit the level is very well optimized.
GP wise nothing original it's a Waboo contest level so it's expected.
The level is both very inconsistent in gameplay and decoration. Some parts are really fun to play and look magnificent, showing how terrifying the deep is, but others look messy and look straight out of a featured level, and on top of that, play like garbage. I honestly don't understand why the part with the squid is even in the level. Still, this is very good for someone's second-rated level.
Also, shark bossfight +1 point
This level is very good when it doesn't use 2.2 features too much, which explains why the least 40% of this level is HORRIBLE. I hate how much the camera rotates for no apparent reason, making the gp confusing and a pain for a level this easy. The sideways gp is also not fun to play.
Other than that the theming, deco, and song choice are certainly nice. Nicki has improved a lot since OuterSpace.
As with Kazey's previous endeavor, Chupacabra, the backgrounds are absolutely gorgeous, but unlike Chupacabra this level sacrifices structuring. The foreground of this level, especially after the drop, is almost empty, which really makes the level not as interesting as it would be with some air deco, instead of relying solely on the backgrounds. GP is pretty fun but I don't have much to say about it.
If the creators went for a unique style to represent the song, this would be one of the best levels in the game and would certainly bring up the quality of Demonlist levels. Instead, the creators here went for 1.9 style, which isn't bad but doesn't even attempt to do something remotely interesting, wasting the potential of this level. Someone please make the next Well Rested with this song
The drop part's effects are way too much (they even surpass WANNACRY in terms of flashiness) to the point where playing it is very hard but man I can't help but love the progression of this level, slowly building up to the incredibly climatic finale. While the block designs are minimalist it is made up for by the amazing backgrounds and animations showing Kazey's artistic skill. The gameplay for the most part is fun until the drop, which btw is so cool but flashy visuals + asynchronous dual make it hard to play
This is one of Knots's most visually appealing levels, the theming is cool around, and the deco (especially the block designs) is extremely clean (something normal for Knots, but it's incredibly apparent here). However, the existence of a 2nd path isn't very well communicated for a Discord Gauntlet entry, and even then, it just turns off the lights of a few parts. The gameplay is not fun to play, especially due to its length. Knots seems to struggle when it comes to making XL levels, and we can see it in this level. This is not a bad level, but there is room for improvement. It's one of Knots's better levels for its theming and designs, but could have had some better gameplay.
Deco-wise this level is very nice, though empty at times, gp wise, this level is straight up annoying with the spider timings at the beginning and that wave section. Also why this song Kiriia, there are so many better SixImpala songs, this one makes me wanna put toothpicks in my ears, honestly made it very hard for me to beat the level even if the level represents the song pretty well tbh
