this is a pretty faithful successor/remake of dorabae-basic12 in both a good and a bad way. the gameplay definitely is an improvement, with the use of 2.0 features being somewhat toned down. the harder base gameplay gives a sense of real difficulty rather than the moving object overuse that db12 suffered from. i think the decoration is actually pretty decent at what it wants to do, and feels (again) like db12 but improved.

i also think it is EXTREMELY funny that Rob rated this in 2025

When I initially saw Quazery start their fan-made dorabae-basic series, the one thing I was hoping for the most was that they delivered with the 12th entry, since dorabae-basic12 has always been my personal favorite.

Thankfully, I think Quazery did a pretty good job with this level! Some of my favorite aspects of this was the usage of a NightKilla song, since one was also used for dorabae-basic12. I also LOVE the robot part in the drop of this level. Dorabae did a lot of experimenting with creating rotations before the rotate trigger with dorabae-basic12, and seeing Quazery go a step further with things like the spinning lights around the player was a delight to see. Quazery also did some primitive size trickery, similar to the end text of dorabae-basic12 which is really neat!

DISCLAIMER: This next part is about mistake within this level that at the time, I believed to have been an intentional mistake by the creator. However, Quazery himself has informed me that the asterisk that I talk about below is ACTUALLY in the level, but just layered incorrectly. It’s likely that since the level was made in the 2.0 editor, he likely verified it in that update as well (as seen in the showcase video, which I will link under this page), and when he transferred the level to 2.2 to upload it, the game decided to be annoying and place that asterisk on the same layer as the block, which means it goes behind it since it’s a text object and they do that for some reason. I would honestly like to apologize to Quazery for not really taking a second to look into this and just assuming the mistake was on purpose, as I know he is one of the few people in this community that truly care about the older creators of the game, even if they aren’t seen as having a large impact like Funnygame and Zobros, so assuming the worst was just dumb on my end. 🤧 I’m still leaving the section in mainly because I find it funny to look back on, and I feel it still gives me SOME grace by least understanding what Quazery wanted to do with this level.

Probably my only problem with this level is how it seemingly forces itself to have mistakes in the decoration sometimes. I mean for example, right before the drop, there is a single missing asterisk in the block design that was FOR SURE left on purpose, because like how tf would anyone miss that?? 😭 While dorabae-basic12 definitely isn’t flawless (ex. some blocks in the robot have 3D Lines, and some do not for some reason) I still feel that Dorabae put a lot more effort in polishing comparison to the other levels being released at the time. Seemingly leaving mistakes like that on purpose feels like the level’s downplaying Dorabae’s genuine skill as a creator, which I know for certain Quazery doesn’t want to imply.

I guess a possible explanation for the “mistakes” is that it’s a fan-made version of dorabae-basic12, and fan-made versions of levels often don’t live up to the originals (think of those strange v2’s of KrmaL’s levels that just did everything worse). I guess the same could apply here, but at the same time, some sections in this level actually do live up to the original, and in the case of the drop robot, honestly might surpass it, so having obvious flaws present doesn’t make as much sense here.

I know that’s a lot to say about a single fucking asterisk, but that’s because I know Quazery means well when it comes to the creation of literally all the levels in this series, as it is very clear that Dorabae is one of, if not their favorite creator to have touched this game, and despite that mishap, I think this level and the series it’s apart of do a great job of showing their appreciation to a creator who returned the appreciation they got with a dorabaethank you ❤️
