I feel like this level is trying to make itself seem way more intense and engaging than it actually is. Beyond the ridiculously over-the-top camera trigger and particle usage, there really isn't much substance to it. It tries to compensate for the visuals by making just about every single jump be indicated by basically impossible-to-miss arrows and having random sections with no required player input at all. There's barely any sauce to it.
In terms of positives, the intro is pretty nice, and I like the boss design, but I do wish that it did more in the level since it really doesn't do much other than float in the background doing absolutely nothing for 90% of the level other than it occasionally trying to whack you with his blade.
On the whole it just feels like it's trying too hard but doing too little simultaneously. Unfortunately it's kind of an ElMato miss for me.
Only trace amounts of good present here. Not an all too original take on the space theming, which isn't inherently a sin by itself, but it's a shame, really. If it were at least somewhat original instead of trying to capture the grandiosity and momentousness that space imagery provides like countless other entries have, I would have at least something good to say about it.
Many levels undercut their song rep, but this is probably the first level I've ever seen to overdo it, and to this comically large extent! The result almost parodies itself. This downright extremely unnecessary intensity is backed by absolutely no gameplay. There's also a complete absence of structuring but unlike other levels that execute it tastefully it just looks like stock assets placed haphahazardly. the intro cutscene is passable and would sell the atmosphere somewhat okay but it's also followed by hands down one of the worst parts I've ever seen in a high profile level ever made. The camera in that part (and by extension, most of the level) is comically intense I have no idea how even 5 year old kids with doorknobs for frontal lobes can take it seriously. The song also makes this level even worse which I think is a compliment consdering how multiplicatively these compound onto each other unlike any other level I have ever seen.
The second half is okay by comparison but that's mainly because it's not egregiously terrible. I don't have anything else to say about it. It still has basically no coherent gameplay structure despite being auto and it focuses more on trying to aurafarm than anything else. So not great.
Boss design and the slice animation is cool. Those are the only things I genuinely like about this. The bridge where the cube jumps between different perspective layers is nice but it's very minor and I only just noticed that
I think the first half drags it down juuuuuust enough to the depths of hell.
This is one of the first levels I've seen where I wanted to tell it to shut the fuck up and then it proceeds to continue doing its bullshit for an additional 2 minutes. Never before has a level just floored me so much with its awfulness.
there are like two things i really like about this level but yeah
I don't get it. It feels like a glorified auto level made exclusively to have people go "wow" when watching it. The gameplay feels like some times it remembers that it can't be an auto level because it wouldn't have a chance to enter the contest then and it's not even fun.
The deco is good, but I think it's too much. Personally, I'd love to see more from you that isn't just something like this because I think you have huge potential.
