One of the most technically impressive levels in recent time.
“Alright, we have a pretty convincing effect set up here. How will we expand upon this across a seven minute runtime?”
“Why would we do that”
Really love the concept of this one, this level takes the most primitive aspects of the editor to its avail and pushes it to its absolute limits. Without having a single orb, pad, portal, nor the use of any feature from after the game’s debut (ignoring the background for now), not a single second feels inessential throughout the entirety of its 7 minute lifespan. There’s something so dreadful looking about its gameplay despite seeming deceptively accessible for a list demon, the difficulty feels intrinsic to the level’s overall vibe and it’s rare to see the current hardest levels own up to their premise this well. Also the amount of gimmicks and smaller details to pick up on and find a moment of brilliancy in is astounding, combined with the mesmerising background effect it becomes surprisingly challenging to get bored of anything. For how little this level can possibly with, it essentially did everything right in my eyes, the concept itself isn’t perfect but the results here are certainly admirable
Every end is one of those levels that is visually simple but effective. That being said, in some parts, it can be very cluttered, which can have a nice effect in a few areas but with lots of outline blocks can be a mess. However, the variety in structuring and how that structuring translates with the unique background effect more than accommodates a high rank visually despite the one or two lackluster transitions and cluttered sections. Some more could have been done with the background I feel but It doesn't detract from my score because there is a good chance the simple path would be better.
The gameplay is absolutely brutal, but incredibly forgiving at the same time. There are some rough chains of difficult jumps but in terms of the whole level, it feels rather consistent throughout (not like my slew of 5% runs say much about enjoyment from zero but I judge how I can).
Overall, while not a perfect level (no such thing) and while there isn't much past what you see at the surface, it is quite enjoyable to play and the visual effect (singular) prevents some eye strain and boredom from looking at stagnant parts. The gameplay is exactly how it looks but feels satisfying to pull off and is never totally unfair.
9/10
It's not often you see something so long and so hard. However, when you do, it's usually because of MindCap.
Overall, I think this level is pretty neat. It will attract people with a unique skillset very high up the list. This will probably have a lot of people trying to jump to it due to how easy it looks to play, but is is very difficult. The gameplay manages to keep things interesting despite the insane constraints for 7 mintues. The memory alone is extremely taxing and combined with the amount of timings and 60hz frame perfects / 2 frames. Though, do attempt this even if you don't feel ready! That's the entire point!
The visual effects are really impressive here, Djoxy really outdid himself.
