Since the space gauntlet came out, this has been my favorite levels of all time. I have rebeaten this so many times just because of how fun this level is. The gameplay is so smooth and syncs very well, and just generally feels awesome to play. I would give specific points, but the gameplay quality is unwavering and strong throughout the entire level that giving specific points will do the other parts of the level injustice. The visuals look marvelous too, and the art in the level had my jaw drop when I first played it. It also sticks to the theme of the Japanese folklore (I think that is what this level is based on), showing that the creator really poured their heart into this to make a really good level. The amount of little details are astonishing too.
Overall, this level hits all the marks in my rule book - empsea absolutely cooked with this.
Honestly when this came out I underrated this a lot just simply because I didn't think I liked the structuring, I still feel that the blocks and structuring as a whole are very disconnected from the rest of the level, but I have came around to really like the other aspects of this. The designs and art are overall extremely pretty though sometimes their connection to each-other is questionable since the progression overall is a bit odd. Backgrounds in particular are really well made, and this level really knows how to use blending to make everything pop and seem beautiful since the colors are on point.
The gameplay is extremely fun to play, before you judge this level I'd recommend playing it since it's very fair even if obtaining that fairness meant sacrificing some creativity (orbit part probably being the hardest part to understand and is cool since it actually makes the gameplay connect more with the rest of the level, but this isn't seen much elsewhere).
Kind of a weird level for me. Some visual assets and setpieces I really love, for example the rotating star effect / opening and ending sequences / the penultimate section with the traditional minka house, but then there are many bare-bones and underdeveloped ideas. The gameplay was mostly really straightforward and a blast. I do wish the level did more "orbiting" gimmicks like with the star, but it only just did it once which was kinda laaaaame.
Honestly not mad at all that it got 2nd in the SGC. Really cool to see an underrated creator get this spotlight.
