not as sure on this as a lot of other ppl are. a major theme in this level, it feels, is "mechanics being generally unexplored". for a level aspiring to be a game there's very little coherent mechanics that are built upon, which makes the level feel short and a bit weirdly paced, especially considering the very anticlimactic ending.

there's a lot of cool execution here though: the atmosphere and use of lighting is very well done, the locations are distinct enough to feel unique but not disconnected, and there's a very distinct polish to the designs and color use here that isnt seen in many other platformers.

unfortunately a lot of the cool ideas the level presents tend to be not quite playtested enough, which made my playthroughs filled with setbacks and a bit frustrating overall. the submarine turns a bit too cleanly, which makes it feel very uncontrollable when boosting and very touchy when not, there's roughly no use in player 2 as a control scheme except for like... slight zoom adjustments in the first 10 seconds, and a lot of the hitboxes tend to feel unclear or, in the bossfight, move slightly based on the ship's rotation - which makes jumps possible only sometimes in a way not directly communicated! which is really bad in a bossfight!

overall i do think neptunes path is a good step forwards for platformers as a whole and a solid experience, i just really wish it felt more coherent.
