Possibly the most overrated level in GD history, at least for me. Considering the space theme they had in mind, its nothing short of hilarious how this level turned out - a disjointed mess with no cohesion, neither in the visual, nor the gameplay department. For every great part Ocular Miracle has in store, there are 2 mid ones, and even most of the highlights do nothing with the theme. I can only assume it must be the scale of this project as a whole that kept the community intrigued for so long, because the level itself is just not good in my eyes.

A tenuous defense of Ocular Miracle:

I don't think it's fair to say that this level has no merit. In fact, for the time, it's a level with quite a lot of individual merits that is weighed down heavily by only a few flaws. For starters, the argument that this level is incohesive has never really rang true with me--sure, it's not perfectly themed, but the notions of technology, sky, and space are there, and it would be difficult to argue it doesn't match the song. In this way, it surpasses a lot of levels of its era, but this is about where my defense ends.

The two largest flaws, in my eyes, are products of the time in which it was built. Firstly, this level has a lot of gameplay that is either inconsistent, unbalanced, incoherent--okay, you get the idea. I've only actually beaten Reverie, but for how fun the first half of that part is the second half fails in so many ways, and it's probably just because playtesting wasn't standard at the time. For a level with such ambitious and complex gameplay, that pretty much guarantees failure (though a lot of old levels are fun despite or because of their failings).

And while the lack of playtesting might be a non-issue for a lot of people, I don't think it's possible to look past the issue of optimization. One of the funniest relics of this level is "Memory Leak" by gecko, which based its decoration on a visual bug that was caused by Ocular Miracle overloading the game's data on some devices and rendering the majority of textures completely black. Since the level is quite literally unplayable on many devices, the various leaders of the project decided to split it into three and upload them all on different accounts so they could share the wealth of creator points. Of course, this level would have been hell to optimize, but it's still just a miserable fate for the project and it cemented this level's legacy as little more than an ambitious lag machine.

Ocular Miracle is an abomination in every possible way. A megacollab as grand as this can only have one purpose. It's one and only goal is to be the best level ever. It wants to shatter every record. It wants to be better than anything ever created. It used an epic song and has awesome gameplay that everyone loves. It has pretty decoration and planets in the background. It has a good variety of styles throughout the level that all showcase the creator's absolute best work. The most offensive thing about this level is that it succeeded... It has built a cult in this game that worships the all powerful Ocular Miracle. It is a god in this game and to this community. Why is a project like this worshipped like it's something we humans are not worthy of setting our eyes upon. We are all human and this level was made by a group of humans. It is a flawed level like every other level in the game. Why does this level get an exception. Why is it praised as true perfection by the community. Who taught people to believe the lie that this level is the greatest thing ever made in this game? I feel like everyone was tricked, hypnotized by the beauty this level displays. I believe this level is truly and utterly a disgrace to the game. It is like a gold statue scraping the heavens and towering over everyone and everything with no real meaning or purpose. It is an incomprehensible structure that no one understands but seduces every living being to worship it because they are blinded by it's beauty. This golden monolith serves no purpose though. It has no meaning. It simply stands there mesmerizing the people who gaze upon it. It takes away the ability to think for oneself. It is the complete opposite of freedom. Lets say for example you were born into a world where there is a gigantic gold statue in the middle of earth. And in this world everyone worshipped it for some odd reason. They call it a gift from God or some otherworldly entity that when they pray to it, they are blessed. Imagine being in this world. Would you not be utterly disgusted by this behavior? I would. Maybe a lot of you reading this would be blinded by the towers beauty like the rest of the world. That's ok, I don't blame you. It's a beautiful statue after all... If I lived in this world I would make it my goal to tear it down. A tower as meaningless as this does not deserve the world's praise. It does not deserve to be treated like a god. It does not have the right to control humans into believing it is the ultimate beauty. It is not beauty. It's a project with the one and only intention of being the absolute best. And when a level tries to be the best, it will only turn to ruin. Trust me, whenever I try to build the best thing I can possibly make, I get frustrated because I realize that it is impossible. Making something that is perfect, making the ultimate beauty is impossible. This level got way too ahead of itself. Ocular Miracle is not perfect and it is far from perfect. The fact people have been brainwashed into believing this falsehood makes me sick. This level is a disgrace and never should have been started in the first place. People need to learn what their own limits are. No one can ever create something truly perfect, and to claim this level is perfection or the best level in Geometry Dash would be the biggest lie ever told in this game's history. This level is worthless in every possible meaning. It is blasphemous to the players of this game.

Another thing I want to mention is this level not getting rated. I find it very ironic that a level with as much effort as this ended up in this state. Ocular Miracle is the best example I can give in this game of flying too close to the sun. Quite literally this level fell apart into pieces while doing so. It's remaining shards becoming their own separate parts of the original piece. They were uploaded to the servers in hopes of getting that precious rate that they had hoped for with Ocular Miracle. But what good does that do when it's just pieces of the puzzle? They lose their whole purpose. And even then the original had no purpose to begin with. The remains of Ocular Miracle are nothing but worthless desperate attempts to rebuild that golden statue. The piece that once loomed over everything has crumbled to the ground and what remains is really no different than when it still stood tall in the sky. All that has changed now is that it is not worshipped like it once was. It cannot present itself before the rest of the world. Some people choose to wake up to the reality that they were caught in it's enchantment. Those who fell out of their reverie for this level will understand what was so wrong about it. It is an attempt to create perfection, or rather, to convince others they had succeeded. Other's remain firm in their faith. They still believe it's one of the best levels made in Geometry Dash. I won't insult those people though. I believe they are right to think their own thoughts and like it for what it is. I think most people can appreciate the creators diligence when creating the great Ocular Miracle. It is an incredible project but for all the wrong reasons. I just cannot respect a level like this. I find it disgusting. I find it to even be somewhat evil. And of course I understand this is just a video game. These are just levels that kids make to have fun. But there was more to this level than just kids having fun building whatever they felt like. This did something no human should ever attempt. Something off limits to art. Do not attempt to create perfection. The only way a piece of artwork will ever be perfect, or rather near perfect, will be from sheer coincidence. There is no such thing as perfection and there never will be a piece of artwork that is truly perfect.

my favorite level of all time. something about the hype around it combined with the length and perfect song representation gives me neuron activation like no other level has. the gameplay is unbelievably fun and while the decoration isn't my favorite at times i still feel like it is executed perfectly. don't think there will ever be a level that truly replicates this for me ever again
