GAMEPLAY

What a masterpiece.

I'll begin with the gameplay, as it's a core part of a Geometry Dash level. Despite being an easy demon and therefore being relatively unchallenging, the gameplay is incredibly engaging and very well-synced. It's genuinely on par with some of my favorite extremes. It's so fun to go through, and I can't say that for the absolute majority of easy demons or even levels in general. Deco-wise, it's likely that nothing I'm saying is new, but I love the decoration of this level so much. Throughout its runtime, it showcases several different parts that all vary greatly while also being important to the story, which I haven't even gotten into. The decoration is insanely clean and polished and VERY pleasing to look at. I like the use of "basic" assets to create more complicated designs, particularly in the predrop. It's also one of few levels that can be considered both an effect level and an art level, and it's quite impressive to be able to pull off only one of the styles, let alone both of them simultaneously. However, that's to be expected from the goat, Seokso. The art in the level is done SO well; the entire thing is genuinely eye candy. I also really like how you traverse through different areas in the drop, and they're all executed perfectly. And all of this in 2.1 too is just insane. Also, a lot of the level uses player colors, which is awesome, and the title drop at the end of the first part gave me a hardon. I can't talk about this level without mentioning the powerful message it carries, which is summarized well in the description, which reads: "Fear not. It's time to embrace the change." Throughout the level, messages like "...is this an illusion?" and "what if everything I knew was a lie?" are written. While they may seem a bit corny and out of place, I think they tie in well to the monologue at the end, which I didn't mention up until now because I believe it's what elevates this level to a true masterpiece and not just a really good level. The text transcribed reads: "for you who's hesitant to change, / or for those who's about to face one, / it might be too scary to look at. / but it's because you're so wary of novelty / that you've made such horrific illusions. / the veil of fear that covers the truth, / when you take it off with your hands / you'll see the world truly prepared for you." This hit hard; I genuinely cried. I've always struggled with change, and grappling with that has been difficult. I've also been wary of novelty, and I've avoided it for most of my life. It felt like the level was speaking to me, and... wow. I guess this describes a lot of us, but I can't believe how much it felt like it was directed to me specifically. Maybe this is an illusion. Maybe I do need to take off the veil of fear that covers the truth. And maybe, everything I knew was a lie. Despite only being "a GD level", this touched me. And decoration-wise, this part is also fantastic. I especially love the visuals in the background, which seem to tell a story of someone who loses their loved one, a change that they must face. When the level ends and the final line of the monologue appears, the final panel that lights up is noticeably larger and includes the player, a decision I adore, as from what I understand, it seeks to both say that this may happen to you, and you can overcome it. And when you decide to, "you'll see the world truly prepared for you." BTW, while grammatical errors in writing annoy me, it didn't bother me here at all. After all, what's important is the message carried. Seokso also monologues throughout the entirety of "space i guess", a similarly incredible level which I won't discuss here but might review later on. Of course, I can't forget the endscreen. To the best of my knowledge, it shows one of two randomized quotes. The options are, as follows: "Just to stay at the status quo, / you've got too many days left." "for someone who'll reach the ocean, / this wave isn't a big deal at all." In my completion, I got the second quote, and when I got to the end, my jaw actually dropped. I adore this level; the message it carries, the gameplay it contains, the deco it displays, EVERYTHING. No other level has made me feel this emotional and inspired in a while. I would without a doubt recommend this, and I hope Seokso continues to create art on par with this. To put it simply, this level is awe-inspiring. All in all, I think this might be my favorite level of all time, and I don't say this lightly. Also, if I hadn't stated this before, I'll state it now, but I so agree with the monologue and the messages at the end. Oh and also, I love the song of this too. I could listen to it for hours, to be honest.

Maybe I will change.

Back in the day I used to rewatch this level over and over and man it's aged so well. The only thing dragging it down for me is that some of the parts are reallt unfitting (particularly the last few) and don't live up to the spacey atmosphere that the other parts set up.

Not really one of my favorites right now, but it holds up super well. Deserves all the praise that it gets.
