This is a great level and a great use of sampling. The main theme of the level is, of course, a radio. Radios usually play songs that aren't made by them, and I think this level using sampling suits that.
Now, the sampling is done really well. If you didn't know that it samples levels you would probably think that it just references levels, like Viprin said, because everything just fits the song.
Now, the gameplay is really good, and had no problems with it, and has great sync. I loved that robot part with "blind" orbs that are marked by indicators
This level is incredibly hard to judge because it defies everything that would normally make a level good, it's astounding how this managed to be so unoriginal and unique at the same time. The premise of the level is interesting, intentionally taking large chunks of other levels to represent the song which is known for falling under the plunderphonics genre, I have a lot of respect for this kind of indirect theming and it does convince me sampling has a place inside this game. However, this whole idea falls flat on its face when the level is scraping by to think of any transformative use for the samples it is capitalizing off of. There are no meaningful references, the way the designs work together is a mediocre attempt at best, even the creators picked to sample from are completely random as far as im aware. The end result is just another generic looking 7ak level that somehow happens to suffer worse from lacking character, nothing about it sticks in your head the same way a catchy plunderphonics song does, I find it really lazy
I hate sampling in terms of Gd as an idea. It shows a lot of misunderstanding of art in general (or I guess different views I see as misinformed) for it to somewhat more popularized now. Liking it to what is done in music is really strange I find, when it’s closer to photo bashing in art, and like you’d never use that for a finalized painting, just as a compositional guide. Such is how I think “sampling” in Gd has its place. Having assets from other levels in a final work even with permission I can’t really be supportive of in the slightest. I have made this argument plenty of times for friends, and I don’t really see anyone genuinely considering my position on things over a level review so I will leave it there. I guess if you want to hear the more nuanced argument contact me or something idk
With a level this visually competent and cognizant of it's limitations it's no wonder this caused the buzz that this did
i like this level
