one of my favorite songs of all time is sulli's goblin. it's very... emotional for a k-pop release? it has the hooks, it has the fun clean production, but there's something more... hopeless? formless? about it. it almost feels like it's calling out to the listener. sulli asks you, over trip hoppy drums, to not be afraid - she just wants to tell you hi.

is it bad if this level, upstairs by itsv4no, feels like the gd equivalent of goblin?

upstairs’ closest counterpart, to me, is tylenol 987 go back by twigxcabaret. partly because they use the same song, partly because the core concept is similar, but upstairs feels so much bigger - so much more hostile - in a way that tylenol could never really manage.

in a way, upstairs feels… lonely?

in all of its huge setpieces and moments there’s a lot of sombre, quiet, and reflective parts near the end and beginning. upstairs wants to be approachable, it wants to say hello - it wants you to enjoy it, but it collapses and decays into unrecognizable shapes as it progresses.

in its own way, upstairs asks the question: would you still want to stay if i did say hi?
