im not a great writer so i dont really know how to express what im thinking super great and there will probably be a glaring problem, but whats the problem with a level like ice carbon diablo x being an extreme demon? it got demoted like 1 or 2 years ago im pretty sure and the only reason i remembered it is because i saw that another easier side insane demon sharp minor got demoted to hard demon aswell, why do users vote for them to be demoted? i think its great if levels like icdx and sharp minor stay as entrances to those difficulties, i remember sharp minor was literally my first insane demon. also, when icdx got demoted it genuinely felt like what the nightmare getting demoted from easy demon to just insane would feel like. i feel that something like icdx deserved to be extreme the same way that the nightmare deserves to be easy demon, idk it may just be a vibes thing, but icdx extreme demon just feels right!? (obviously this goes for other easier extremes and insanes and so on...)

ik that robtop or mods dont have a say in what tier the demon is and its the players that choose, im just trying to understand -- why?

what do you guys think is the solution to this if you generally agree with what im saying?

(incoming old man yelling at cloud jokes probably)

Mods do have influence over the ratings of levels, in fact their votes have significantly more weight than others. Often when levels get demoted it is specifically because a mod went out of their way to send it down.

As for ICDX and Sharp Minor, a large portion of the grinding community (which generally have a less biased perspective than people beating them as hardests) found them to simply be too easy for the set difficulty. A lot of people struggle to realize that each demon rating spans over a massive area of difficulty, Medium, Hard, and Insane Demons especially having notoriously large “no-mans-lands” where the difficulty overlaps a lot. Demotes like this simply serve to redirect levels into places they would fit better, and Sharp Minor and ICDX are easier than a very significant amount of their current rating.

A lot of people still think Sharp Minor is Insane Demon and ICDX is Extreme Demon worthy and thats fine, don’t let the number of horns a level has influence your choice to play the level. Just recognize that rerates serve a purpose and not for hurting people’s feelings.

Hope this helps you see why levels get rerated ;)

In regards to ICDX being demoted, it was dropped to Insane Demon difficulty practically at the very beginning of 2.2's release. Bear in mind, that the update introduced revamped physics and FPS count no longer influenced ship's movement behavior, meaning that players with 60hz monitors generally experienced the same ship gameplay as people who owned monitors with much higher refresh rates. ICDX, being a level with plenty of tough flight sections, got indirectly nerfed due to that. Even before 2.2's drop ICDX's difficulty was a topic of heated discussions, but a lot of people generally agreed at the time that new ship physics made the level much easier compared to how it was before the update.

why do users vote for them to be demoted?

for your examples it's because skill based levels got (or at least perceived as) easier over time. newer technology affects skill based levels more than other types of levels, which makes them physically easier. also people are better at ship/wave than game modes like spider or swing (because ship/wave became very prominent in levels in general) so the community is inclined to find skill based levels easier over time.

mods have magnitudes more voting power than the players so I think the opposite of what you said is true.

It really depends on the level itself, the lines between are never not going to be blurry
