Figured I'd put this out here; I'm probably just as frustrated by certain users as y'all.
Conventional wisdom, from my understanding, is that trolls feed off attention. Engage them, and they have achieved their goal of being paid attention to. Ignore them, and hopefully they'll go away. There's a really well-known parody of "Be Our Guest" from Beauty and the Beast about this very issue that's been used in multiple daily levels, for goodness' sake. And yet I've seen a couple people "keep on trying / mindlessly replying" to the concerned users here, so to speak.
Don't know if this also applies to giving reputation, but honestly, it probably does. Not that giving negative reputation to mark a user as a troll isn't helpful in other ways, but a troll might be proud of having negative reputation.
[Verse 1]
You've been trolled, you've been trolled
Yes, you've probably been told
He's just trying to get a rise
You respond and that's his cue
To start trouble on the double
While he strokes his manly stubble
[Verse 2]
You've been trolled, you've been trolled
When the only winning move is not to play
And yet you keep on trying, mindlessly replying
You've been trolled, you've been trolled, have a nice day
just to remind yall ;)
