i spontaneously wrote this last year while waiting for my lunch order and I cant recall why but i just uncovered the note and ita funny enough to put on the site

New worm mode is a level by french creator anpy that tells an intriguing tale of love, romance and connection through the lens of a limbless pink creature, which stands for the conditionality, or more commonly, unconditionality of love that someone may feel towards a being or perhaps a more nebulous idea, of which endowing a placid innocence upon the player, just like the lovable nature of a worm, effectively communicates with brilliant simplicity the nuance of social dynamics, our place in the world, and our reason to keep living and loving. similarly, this level is all I could ever ask for, and shows a true depiction of the ever-present emotions that drive us forward each and every day, and by extent, our lives. anpy, I would still love you if you were a worm, and may your wiggly influence continue to spread far and wide

offers a super cool and somewhat trope-bending perspective into visual storytelling translated to gd, most notably through the storyboard-esque backgrounds, as if animated panels of a comic. kazey doesn't seem to have relinquished this choice in his other art-styled works (of which chupacabra has been his first foray into this style) and im excited to see something with more visual cohesion in the future (which i can confirm to be the case teehee), but i think this level uses its disorganisation to its advantage! it does a great job of building tension and serves to complement lace's development throughout the level effectively, and the end sequence is the first instance of a premature ending i think i'd seen in gd and left me looking at my reflection on my laptop screen for a few seconds. with the rapid oversaturation of this style, this level will be looked upon less favourably, but i think it's pretty neat (and one of my 2024 picks!)

blue tabu levels make me inexplicably sad. tabu's simple geometric style has always bled wondrous innocence, and this level wields this power acutely to assume the position of ideas and ideals long past, shaping environments from dust, structures assuming textures and forms under the night sky, or the deep ocean, or wherever your mind molds itself to. it's reaching for a nebula that you didn't realise how strongly you felt towards, something that the process of development has pushed you from, temporally or spiritually. even the level starts as quickly as it ends; as if you were to move on before the chance to cling to your chest presents itself. nostalgia is the key to the heart i suppose
