definitely indebted to say less and its climax but not 6 3 takes those shared ideas in a really interesting direction and the great song choice elevates the harsher weirdness in this a lot. the last dash orb is fantastic
how the concept for this one came about i have no idea but it's extremely creative. one of the coolest recent releases for sure, feels very close to levels like minimal meadow in philosophy
compositionally stunning as expected from flash but this fails very slightly to hold up against his best work. it’s full of great ideas, has excellent cooperation between gameplay and visuals and uses these gorgeous, intricate designs that i am a huge sucker for but it doesn’t quite have a real core for me to attach to, similar to how i feel about well rested. still probably the best space gauntlet entry (mostly because it’s one of the only ones that feels like it was made for more than just winning the contest) and completely singular as all of flash’s levels are
pure joy. i’m not too into older levels but this certainly is one of the best i know of, deserves its status
song and level work together here in a way so rarely seen in gd. i’m hesitant to call the level a companion piece to the song like a lot of other great song representations in the game; conversely it exists on equal footing with the song and they complement each other instead of the association being one sided, a huge feat especially considering the level is entirely built around the very basic principle of progression. it’s very linear and sort of predictable but every addition of a new design element still feels like a revelation.
the bossfight is really the centerpiece of this level and it’s fantastic. i say that as someone who usually despises bossfights, but this one just makes sense in the context of the level and doesn’t feel tacked on in the slightest. both of the encounters have really creative attacks and the monster itself is iconic!! certainly one of the best in the game, if not the best. it’s one of my favorite rafer levels, the light theming is a great addition and it’s really exciting to play.
great buildup, great release. people complained about this one an awful lot when it came out because of the difficulty and i think it kept a lot of those people from really appreciating the level because they were so caught up on the number three on the level page. it's simple structurally but brilliantly executed and represents its song very very well, not even that hard either. folks just Don't Get It
love this level just like all of devin’s work but unfortunately i can’t call it his best. most of the ideas here as cool as they are feel a little underbaked in comparison to some of his shorter levels, it’s just barely missing the raw power his other work is so iconic for
adorable level. i love those little critters so much and seeing them frolicking happily at the end added an extra 5 years to my life
