Very repetitive, there's the one star part I quite like but everything else feels like a poor attempt at throwing whatever at the editor in hope it works out
I always saw this level as a bit of a fancy extension, it's difficult to feel insulted by it with zobros' own involvement in the project. Out of all nine circles remakes out there I consider this to be the most faithful one, it doesnt follow the standard formula of "these rigid boxes is what defines the genre" and instead opts to give a semi-unique take on the original level's theme, which supposedly resembles some kind of Asian dungeon. There are some neat designs, the drop was made a lot less repetitive and the overall structuring was changed up to feel sharper and more threatening, the level seems to know what it's doing and yet it feels so underwhelming in the end. Aside from the random Chinese pop up windows at the wave there's very little effort made to communicate the intended aesthetic properly, the designs are about as cryptic as its predecessor, they're modernized just enough to look fresh but it never strictly improves upon anything. Especially the wave, intended to be the level's biggest spectacle, misses its mark in the remake, all its trippy feel is lost to a bunch of static pulses and bland bg elements. I respect what the level was going for, in the sea of meaningless parodies nine circles has received a solid remake could've highlighted its earnest qualities a bit more, but I believe this was a rather weak attempt at doing so
All the stimuli going on gives me the motion sickness of an elmatoswag level and the song is far past its prime by now, yet for whats worth I dont have any strong feelings against this map. There's a certain humour to how this cluster of a bossfight consist of mostly underdog submissions, as if in admission that all the favoured entries are too faceless to be worth referencing. The melodramatic end sequence is dumb but it suits for all the bizarre events happening prior in the level, it helps you reflect on whatever nonsense you've just experienced. For how much im ranting right now I do think there's some genuine creative art and ideas to appreciate, it's a fever dream to look at, but I can imagine it shouldnt need to end up being this much of a mess to convey this otherworldly feeling
I'm in full support that activism wont always look pretty, the message of the level couldnt be any more clear and in theory I think it could make for a very strong sentiment here in trying to advocate for social justice. However, I cant help but think its approach here is shallow and does very little to be resonated with, it's trans positivity without delving into any of the ongoing struggles or even signifies the trans experience at all. I wouldnt say this is necessarily a form of virtue signaling, especially knowing the creators behind it, but I really wish there was any substance I could touch on especially with how serious the level is making itself look. At least the level still has some energy to it, it's "raw" as you may say
Just another megacollab that happened to greatly suffer from its overwhelming amount of ambition, not really sure what’s supposed to separate it from levels like atmarbl despite having a reputation of being humorously overconfident with itself
What makes jayuff so special as a creator is his ability to make stuff that’s both highly dynamic and humorous at large quantity, it’s a quality audieo aspires to have but continuously fails to match the energy of due to the overambitious nature of his work. Big feet is the prime example of this underlying issue, the comedy is not only delivered poorly but also isn’t very enticing to begin with, it’s overly innocuous and doesn’t speak much of any character. While this isn’t a problem in and of itself, the moment you start making crazy artistic moves like inviting wulzy over to speak some bars for the post credit scene, you are lifting the expectations quite a bit. Bad humour aside, the level has a lot of pacing issues with random shit thrown at you every second, there are a lot of interesting ideas that don’t have any room to breathe because of how desperately this level wants to be something more. This kind of redundancy can work if you’re cerufiffy or devin2003, but they work with heavily personalised material meant to function as a self portrait rather than trying to look stubbornly indecisive. I may sound harsh with my criticism but it really needs to be said that this level is terribly misguided, assuming it aims to rival the sassy personalities of this game’s history, I see a lot of potential that just hasn’t found its way yet
Certainly not serponge's brightest work, I dont particularly have strong feelings against it but the sheer quantity of things it does wrong really brings it down. The song is atrocious, not gonna say much more about it other than that it bleeds my ears, the gameplay is also an absolute disaster and it doesnt help it got an almost 20 second long cutscene right before a huge difficulty spike. Visually there are a few interesting ideas here and there but it's mostly held back by the muddy looking textures and some really annoying camera effects, the drop is easily the worst offender as it has little to no redeemable aspects to it and feels about as nauseating as the song does. I do respect the consistent theme the level has, and some of the gimmicks are admittedly kinda interesting, but it all felt like a waste of potential to me.
