This level wouldve been a disastrous parody were it make a quick mocking effort of the level it's criticizing, what makes it so beautiful however is its down to earth mediocrity and misconceived pretentiousness that show genuine envy throughout its 3 hours of effort. Im god thrives off of the reactionary malding of its audience, and this level certainly takes the icing on the cake for that, there is a real attempt made to show the high ground and fails to do so in the most comedic fashion. The bitterness of people like akinawoo is what drives modernism to succeed in this game, without even trying to cause upset we get to have the pleasure of seeing them sulk.
I’ve always been a fan of yakob’s christmas themed collabs, despite their lack of cohesion and noticeable quality differences between parts there’s something about their cozy winter spirit that fascinates me with them. I was pleasantly surprised to hear I was invited to make a part for the next project in the series, seeing a lot of familiar faces and another great crumbs song being put to use assured me I was gonna have a blast working on it, and to no surprise I did! It’s save to say I have a lot of biases working in the level’s favour, just the memories alone make me happy of its existence, but this doesn’t make me blind to its larger issues. More so than its prequel, the level puts emphasis on its messy mixture of modernised art and more traditional designs, with some parts showing no trace of the latter anymore. In a positive light, this series stands out for its wide diversity of styles, almost celebratory to its creators and their unique character. On the contrary however, a lot of this character is lost to some of the saver, downplayed ideas that come with these art-oriented parts, resulting in the level looking uncertain about its direction. As much of life this project brought to my holiday, I’m far from calling this a perfect result. But regardless of anything, my own experiences have an indisputable worth and I’m glad I got to close my year sharing part of my joy with the rest of the community
There’s no need to magnify the issue, but Jesus Christ have some sense of shame. There’s nothing bold about its lousy and uninspired way of provoking disgust, it’s self-humiliating attention seeking
One of the earlier examples of really pretty art levels that simply arent meant to be played, it doesnt per se play bad as much as a lot of it feels aimless. A lot of the aesthetics are really cool, it's very easy for this sunset adjacent style to fall into monotony and so it's nice to a fresh take on it for once. But in spite of that, the homogeneous nature of these kinda art levels is still very present here and for how fascinating the concept is it doesn’t feel too engaging. The wave part shows a bit more promise, moving through ventilation systems to pass by different aspects of the lab is an interesting way to get you to engage with the environment, hence becoming the most immersive part of the level. Other than that, the layout feels mostly random and fails to capture a world that feels parallel to the player, and while theres still volume in the level to appreciate it does have its theme fall flat on its face
Unintentionally really funny, the concept being as bizarre as it is makes it a pretty valid remake in my eyes. The end does drop in quality a little but the charm is still there
As early 2.2 as it can get, this level tries all the new things of the update without having the execution to back up its ideas. But for whats worth, the song representation is nothing short of unique for its time, every element is used subtly enough to serve a real purpose in making the level look as lively as it does
I'm in full support that activism wont always look pretty, the message of the level couldnt be any more clear and in theory I think it could make for a very strong sentiment here in trying to advocate for social justice. However, I cant help but think its approach here is shallow and does very little to be resonated with, it's trans positivity without delving into any of the ongoing struggles or even signifies the trans experience at all. I wouldnt say this is necessarily a form of virtue signaling, especially knowing the creators behind it, but I really wish there was any substance I could touch on especially with how serious the level is making itself look. At least the level still has some energy to it, it's "raw" as you may say
