Massively Overrated is calling my phone. This is a good level but this being lauded as the pinnacle of TamaN's work is baffling considering this is the same person who made Adrift , New Earth, Sad Machine, Impulse, and Terminal Velocity, levels that I think are more deserving of that title. Motion has its fun moments, and the beginning is very iconic, but unlike a lot of TamaN's other work it sits uncomfortably between wanting to progress to a point and wanting to vibe the entire time. Still, this is a fun enough demon that I think anyone won't be dissatisfied with beating it.
Very neat crystal gauntlet entry
This is in the same league as VOGUE or Tethys for me, definitely great but not at the same height as Presta's peak. Kind of like Tethys, the drop is a bit of a letdown compared to the rest of the level and it ends a bit too abruptly.
Edit: Well, I guess it's now a gem gauntlet level as well
Renn gets a lot of hate for the sheer volume of levels they release but I think that they're much more evocative of GD's spirit and more creative than the works of creators with similar volumes of work (see Lemons, Optical, etc).
As for this level, it's a very nice vibe, kind of like playing the GD equivalent of a homecoming, and it's a standout level of Renn's. It shows that not every great level needs to be saddled with all the ambition of the world- sometimes your best ideas succeed because they're given room to breathe.
One of three custom platformer levels I've played, since the gamemode is terrible, but apparently this was worth playing, so I decided to do so. It's a decent level, although would probably be better as a classic level a la experiment by mbed.
Rafer is the closest creator to surpassing design creators like Hinds in terms of color work yet I lament that aside from the godly color work being done here I struggle to really attach myself to anything else other than the main volcano equalizer effect. The rest of the level feels a bit of a wash- I'm glad Rafer didn't go all out with the move trigger the same way he did in Blood Sugar or Sky Tower, but its uses here are still more hurtful than helpful. Also his trademark coins are stupid.
I personally do not like the update that Jax made to this level during 1.7 but I think it still is a decent, fun easy demon. They know how to make fun ball and ship gameplay and while I think some of this cube gameplay is questionable, I think there is some space for the precarious style they use for it. Obviously Jax doesn't stack up to today's huge standards but I still think this level is better than a good portion of levels released today.
