Ratio Circles by ch4rlie03
A medium length level with atrocious gameplay that has amazing decoration, and amazing song is pretty much my best summary to this level. This is one of the circles levels that makes me not wanna play circles levels ever again. (other one is problematic but that's for another review)
Another level with no concept, I will be talking about the Gameplay, Decoration, and the Song on this.
Gameplay on this is just atrocious. Getting consistent on most of these wave parts are close to impossible, and playing them is just awkward (which is something problematic also suffers from). I wanna talk about every parts one by one since i have a lot to say on each part.
• Predrop (0%-25%) is actually one of the parts saving this level from a zero, tho not by much with the offsync spider part. WHY IS IT SO OFF SYNC??? idk if I'm doing something wrong or the metronome on my head is broken, but this spider is just off sync. Ship part is alright, it's just an easy ship part which thx god. Then the build-up, it's just a calm before the storm part. I'm probably a bit critical on the spider part, but i just wanna make myself start my ranting session on the parts after this.
• First Wave (25%-43%) might not look like much, but this is the hardest part of the level. I don't really know if my clicks are just delayed, but clicks at the same frame as my previous run is just impossible. The first 25%-29% is pretty easy to be consistent to, but 30%-34% is just impossible to do for some reason. Trying to consistently hold at the same pace is so hard for some reason, and i don't know why. Every hold i do is always different even when i try to replicate my previous hold, and for some reason there's a NORMAL SLOPE AT THE TOP OF THE ENDING ON THE PART. LIKE WHY??? IT BREAKS MY CLICK PATTERN SO MUCH AND I GET SO MANY UNNECESSARY DEATHS TO THAT ENTIRE SLOPE ALONE... Anyways 34%-42% is fun, it was annoying to do at first but i got consistent after some tries which made me consistent at it pretty well. Well not by consistent to the point of passing it all the time but it's still consistent.
• Dual Wave (44%-58%) is another part that i can't get consistent to that it became annoying to play. I only had 2 run to 100 on this which might not be that bad but i have 2000+ attempts on this level. You can say whatever you want but this part was just unfun. Anyways first and foremost, why the FUCK is the transition unaligned??? this is WHY TRANSITION FIXES EXIST, HOW WAS THE VERIFIER PLAYING THIS AND NOT FINDING THIS ANNOYING UNALIGNED PORTAL??? IT MAKES THIS INCONSISTENT PART SO MUCH WORSE. One good thing about it is reaching the mini portal makes it aligned again, tho it's possible to somehow skip that mini portal which is weird. Thx god that didn't happen on me from 0, only happened 2 times on practice. 47%-51% is just consistency on the holds which didn't take long to practice. 52%-56% is easy but i die a lot here from 0 for some reason. Practicing it wasn't even hard, i just keep doing something that's making me die alot. 56%-58% is just another hold consistency, and that's the dual wave overall.
• Break Part (58%-76%) is just a break part. Another one of the parts saving the gameplay from a 0, it's just a preparation for the next wave part. I died on the first click once which is still a mystery, idk how i died there. Other than that i never died here afterwards, yeah this is just a solid break part.
• Final Wave Part (77%-84%) is the easiest wave part out of all the wave parts on this, but even with that i hated this part. It's somehow possible to overshoot 80%, which is probably one of the worst clicks out of the entire level. Everything about the 80% click is just wrong, weird tilt to the mini portal WHICH makes the hold rng if you go too high or too low. Also ABOUT BEING TOO HIGH, YOU ARE GUARANTEED TO DIE TO THE TOP SAWBLADE. I SWEAR THIS LEVEL IS BUILT TO BE GARBAGE TO PLAY. After that click, it's actually pretty chill. It's just ruined with just a weird tilt to the mini portal.
• Final Ship (85%-90%) is actually a part i never died to, unless if i did but i prob didn't. But that's not to say that this is a free part, this is actually tricky part to play if you don't know what you're doing. The maneuvers om this might not be hard, but it's easy to die to. It's not as bad as the other parts tho.
• Outro (91%-100%) is straightforward. You click the toggle orbs and you ignore the red orbs. It's not a hard part to do.
Yeah, this gameplay is garbage. But some parts saved it from a 0 so i guess that's nice.
Decoration on this is actually so amazing, it looks so presentable and it looks like something that you should have fun playing, but I'm sure you know what i think about it at this point. The decoration just looks clean and it doesn't feel too cluttered. Only reason this is not 10/10 is because the wave parts looks worse compared to the other parts, but other than that it's solid.
Song on this is also amazing, also gives the happiness vibes (how many times do i say about what i think of the gameplay on this). It's really just an amazing song, it fits the decoration really well and that's pretty much all i can say about it.
Unenjoyable level filled with amazing decoration and amazing song is always something that i hate to play. I'm feeling a Light to Decent 3 on this.
Star Road by Nicki1202
One of the easy demon i've beaten on gddp and one of the levels i enjoyed playing. I don't think this review is gonna be long, so this would be a easy read to my 0 fans. I don't think this has a concept so i won't be talking about that.
I will be talking about the Gameplay, Decoration, and the Song of this level.
The gameplay on this level is really fun. It's one of the easier easy demons on the game but even with that, i still really enjoyed playing the gameplay alot. It utilizes 2.2 camera in a way that it doesn't make playing the gameplay annoying in a way, which is something i hope future 2.2 levels take in consideration. My only complaint about the gameplay is that one quad spike at the beginning cube, but that jump is at the very beginning and doesn't ruin the level much. Yeah this is just really well made.
Decoration on this level is really smooth. It might not be as outstanding as other levels, but i always like decoration that looks good and doesn't make seeing the gameplay impossible. I think that's something a lot of 2.2 levels fail to consider, which is the reason of the high score on the decoration.
Song on this is amazing. I really like the sound of NightHawk22's songs, so i should prob check out his discography when i finish camellia. Going back to the topic, i really like this song. I like how enjoyable it sounds which fits the level alot, the last part sounds goofy asl but it doesn't ruin the song much so it's really just amazing.
Yeah, this is a solid level. I'm giving this a Decent to Strong 9.
Death Moon by Caustic (Funnygame)
One of the most influential levels from Funnygame and one of the most iconic levels of all time. It has so many things that has never been seen on any gd level before, and people who try to replicate this level doesn't have the same creativity or overall Death Moon feel around it. You might not understand this but i regard this as the "Illmatic" of GD (which is one of the most influential rap albums of all time, it's pretty unrelated but i see a lot of similarities of the two).
I don't think there's a specific concept to this other than being an effect/art level so i won't be talking about it. I will be talking about the Gameplay, Decoration, and the Song of this level.
The gameplay on this is amazing. It's a nerve control level which im always a big fan of, and i just really like how this level really plays out. There's no bullshit gameplay on this level which always makes for an enjoyable level.
The decoration from it's time is just outstanding, it's really well made, and alot of effects and arts on this level inspired a lot of creators (Name me one creator i ain't influenced - Funnygame prob). Sure, you could say that most stuff here didn't age as well as the other parts. But to deny the overall influence and creativity of this level is just ignorant at best. Yeah this is good shit.
The song on this is pretty great, the overall melody and sound on this is just solid. Nothing really stands out much on this song but it's not bad so it's just a solid song for me.
Sure this level might not be in the same level as other levels here today, but i think this is the best level to use as a benchmark to creating levels. I'm giving this a Decent to Strong 9.
STARPUNK by Ferdefunky
Tbh this is one of the levels where i just don't know what to say on the opening part, it's just an amazing level.
Anyways, i won't be talking about the concept of this since i believe it doesn't have one. I will be talking about the Gameplay, Decoration, and the Song on this.
Gameplay on this is actually solid. It's a nerve control level which is something i like because i have a strong nerve control, ima start talking about the gameplay now.
• The First Part (0-24%) of this is prob the only part i dislike alot, idk why but it feels alot more unenjoyable than the other parts of the level that I'm gonna talk about.
• The First Drop (24%-46%) is my 2nd favorite part of this level, this part is really fun by itself. I don't like the first ball and robot alot but after that it's PEAK, the ship part absolutely executes the vibe very well on this, and after that is the ufo which is ok and the end of the drop. It's really good.
• The Break Part (46%-71%) is just a break part, the gameplay is easy but it's very focused on nerve control so make sure to not choke this part. I have nothing to say about this part other than it's a solid build-up to The Last Part.
• The Last Drop (71%-95%) or The Second Drop is easily my favorite on this level. It's really easy but the energy of this part nevertheless is at its peak, i really love the song on this part. Also it's heavily nerve control which is fire.
• The Outro (95%-100%) is just an outro. It doesn't ruin the level either way, but it's a good outro to test your nerve control if you will panic and die at the last jump which isn't too hard but the nerve control is building up to this jump which is something i like about long levels.
Decoration on this is solid till this day, it fits this level alot and i really like how polished it feels. It also didn't feel like it aged alot. My only complaint is that The First Half looks worse compared to the other parts but other than that, it's still amazing.
I already talked about the energy of the drops, im sure you know what i feel about this song.
This level is really good, and i hope there's more long levels that does something like this, I'm feeling a Light to Decent 9 on this.
So Rage Quit by Bli
One of the more polarizing levels that has been released as of date, and what do i think about it? Just scroll down for my score if you don't wanna read allat.
I will be talking about the gameplay, decoration, the uses of sfx and songs, and the overall concept of this level.
Gameplay on this is nothing special, it's basically stereo madness but easier which is understandable with how sudden a lot of these decoration is which i will be talking about afterwards. I didn't really hate nor like this gameplay in any way, it's just mid.
Decoration on this is amazing, which i expected because this is bli. The overall realistic view of the room when the person smashes the screen of his tablet is just outstanding, after that it feels alot like a compilation level with the switch on dash and hexagon force which i think is ok. Then we get to the 9 tv's which I think is really good, this guy is just insanely talented at the editor i swear, then the last ship is another part that feels like a compilation level then you die at 98 and the guy destroys his tablet again. I do not know what happened to his previous tablet but ig he bought a new tablet. Yeah this decoration is off the charts.
The uses of sfx and songs are perfect, it shows alot on the first compilation parts and i think it was done well. Also the echo sound thing when the cube goes out the tablet and the down tuning when it goes futuristic is amazing work.
The concept on this is well, rage quit. It was shown pretty well at the genesis, the tv part, and the ending; but ignoring those parts, it doesn't show it on the level itself. Idk if im too critical but outside those parts, it's just a level with amazing decoration.
I still like this level nevertheless and I don't really get the overall hate on this at all. I'm feeling a Light to Decent 8.
[SPOILER WARNING: DON'T READ THIS REVIEW UNLESS IF YOU FINISHED THIS LEVEL]
Decay is easily one of my favorite platformer levels of all time, it shocks me on why it didn't receive mythic when i finished playing it. Anyways I'm not here to glaze this level nonstop, time for the review.
I'm gonna talk about the gameplay, decoration, the use of sfx and songs, and the story since this level has one.
Gameplay on this is amazing, it adds challenges on parts that are easy but alot of those parts uses patience especially the golem part which makes me feel "dang he travelled such a long way" which is one thing i really like about story type levels or even games in general.
Decoration on this is perfect, it looks like an actual game with how good it executes the pixel art on this. My one complaint about it is that it's really unoptimized so it's impossible to play on full detail, but despite that i still liked the level on low detail.
The use of sfx and songs on this is perfect. It's not too "obnoxious" and it really fits on this level alot, i could pretty much say the same on the songs.
The story on this level actually almost made me cry, that ending was just too beautiful. The way that the mc loses hope because the witch was dead, and him being reborn as the butterfly which was showed earlier is really good use of foreshadowing and progression to the story. The wizard story is also amazing, the wizard and his son running away to the swamp because of something that the wizard did, and the optional side story to the mother itself makes the end of the wizard act so good. It's something a few levels fail to accomplish which this level executes well.
Yeah this is a easy Strong 9 to a 10 for me
So i beaten sidestep, and here's my thoughts about it.
The first cube is pretty straightforward, I think it's just ok for me, That's all.
Well the first ship.... I would say the same thing, if only the 11% hold wasn't so trash to do. This is like my first obstacle when trying to beat this level because the way you do this part is so janky to do even tho i found my most consistent way of doing it, like WOW it literally sucks so bad to play. The other parts of the ship is just free tho, i just try to not fuck it up when passing the 11% chokepoint.
The Ball Part is just a whatever part for me, nothing interesting about it.
The first drop is probably the most satisfying part for me out of the entire level, but with the 11% bullshit on the first ship, it just makes me mad whenever i die at this part which is pretty sad since i actually think this is a very enjoyable part, but well, it is what it is. Also for some reason if you enter the 33% in a weird way, you would randomly die to the transition to the ball which i found out randomly for 0%.
Also the transition from First Drop to Second Part was so hard to me at first since the transition from 2x to 1x speed felt so weird to me and i had to do a triple spike which made it pretty hard, thx god there's was an orb that opens the 1st coin and it skips the second triple spike which is nice.
Second Drop just needs consistency, i sometimes get stupid deaths here and there on the second drop but i got consistent the more i played it. Also i somehow die to 49% a couple amount of times and idk why, it's just a random part that i should get past easily but i somehow die to it for some reason. The ufo is straightforward and you need to somehow hold 53% right or else you hit the hitbox of the groundspike on the blue portal but that's all to it.
The dual part is also pretty straightforward, you just need to buffer some orbs and you're good to go. 68% used to be rng to me until i discovered waiting.
And the 73% ship...
This part is easily the hardest part out of the entire level and it's somehow the part i took the longest to get consistent to. The first half of it is ok but the second half (The part when you hit the big portal) is literal rng to me, 78% and 79% hold was so hard to get consistent to since sometimes i either get too high up or too low especially the 79% hold. I either go too high and get 80% or get too low and hit the spikes. Thankfully i got more consistent the more i play it and even tho it's not like free to me, i find it significantly easier now.
I had no deaths on 81-91 from 0% since it's one of the easier parts of the level.
And the last ship.
This ship was just rng to me when i tried to practice it. Some days i pass it pretty easily, some times i barely pass it. For me i think this is just a part that you will get consistent to if you play it long enough. I got 93%x3 and 92% but i beaten it so idrc.
Also this is the first level where i actually needed to rant to my friends about how bullshit this level is.
So in conclusion,
My experience to this level is completely ruined by unnecessary chokepoints.
Enjoyment: 1/100
