I was hoping and praying this level would stay out the gauntlet and am thankful my prayers were answered. Such an ill-conceived disasterpiece that represents the worst of what you can do with the editor nowadays.
This is not a 1 because it is slop. This is a 1 because this level is so outlandishly bad that I kinda respect it.
First of all, another circles level! YAYYYYYYYYYY!!!!! I really hate playing circles levels so I can't imagine the gameplay would be fun for me
Secondly, the song sounds like someone tried to pitch the sound of someone oozing shit out of their ass and turn it into a beat.
Finally, the visuals are so fucking bright it literally looks like color vomit on my screen.
All of these factors make this map such an anomaly of level design that just makes me cringe in disgust every time I see it. I can't imagine making myself sit through playing this because of how much it physically disgusts me. I would genuinely rather throw my computer into the Grand Canyon before playing this level.
To an extent, I understand that this level is a joke which is why this is not a flat 0, but holy shit man...
At least it does something different than other levels that pull the "YouTube and GD are inside the level" bs, but it is just getting so old at this point. The phonk track also just pisses me off.
Metalface is a creator that has always intrigued me. They tend to stand out a lot from other design creators mainly for their use of black portals, but there's a lot of depth to their work beyond that. In N0 specifically, Metalface effortlessly blends designs reminiscent of intricate industrial architecture with the pixel aesthetic of retro games alongside super pretty colors that are perfectly tuned to their designs. This mashup of vibes and designs is such a crazy combination that Metalface executed beautifully to a song that completely matches the vibes of the level. There are mysterious sections such as the beginning, bubbly, fun sections such as the break, sections that are super fast and slick, and a slow glitchy ending. Then there's the gameplay. Wow it is so good. Every input feels super smooth and flows perfectly into the next set of inputs matching how slick the song and decoration are. There is so much crammed into this level that you can't help but have a blast with it. Experiencing this level is just about everything you could ask for.
I think the level is good, but not exactly the most original. Amelanchier by the same creator was able to build a stronger atmosphere with this style and work the gameplay a bit better into its narrative. While Redeemer still does well, it doesn't feel very original or nearly as effective as surveyor's former level. A huge distractor for me was the song. It just straight up doesn't match most of the level being way too upbeat for the majority of its playtime. It has its strong moments such as the slow section at around 25% and the finale, but the rest just doesn't work. That being said, the gameplay is as strong as ever and manages to be super fun and visually striking for its 7-minute playtime.
Overall, Redeemer is quite good, but it fails to stand on its own and create a compelling atmosphere.
I genuinely have no idea why this series warranted 5 levels. I'm pretty sure I've played all the others and can't remember a single thing about any of them.
This is some super cool stuff. It's a pretty generic "XXL" level, but the vibes are immaculate, and the gameplay is really enjoyable. The lack of detail definitely sells the calm nature of the level and it highlights the color usage which I believe is also a strong point.
Some of the most oppressive atmosphere in this game. I thought the indicators toggle at the beginning was gonna add jump indicators, but it just makes the platforms more visible. Very good stuff.
