RATING SCALE: 10/10 – BEYOND AMAZING, one of my few TOP favorites 9/10 – AMAZING, one of my favorites 8/10 – amazing 7/10 – great 6/10 – good 5/10 – okay 4/10 – neutral 3/10 – annoying 2/10 – painful 1/10 – there is something ethically wrong 0/10 – [never use this] ‼️—————————————————————————‼️ hello everybody: i’m new to hyperbolus ! i wrote 5 reviews so far 😁 my favorite things (not in any particular order) are as follows: 1: visuals 2: gameplay 3: overall i think that the existence of legendary and mythic offloads too much of a level’s status to the rating system: nowadays, a level’s status is held together less by the community’s image of it and more by the rating given to it by robtop (in a way). or if the status isn’t very impacted then part of the discussion surrounding the level is: a piece of the discussion turns from harmless talk about its worth into talk about if it deserves legendary or mythic and if robtop did the level justice. not to say that the latter matters but many people think it does and it leads to arguments ! in other words maybe a level’s worth is not as abstract a topic as it used to be. (even subconsciously it may seem to have more gravity) do you agree with any of this ? is this an obvious thing to say ? ok ! that makes sense: that was the part i was most unsure about opinions are liquid care how ? even if it doesn't matter it should be cared about (to an extent and in a certain way) i think that legendary and mythic ratings should not be rejected but rather discussed in a healthy way. what reason is there to not gaf about a level's rating ? it's still important ! it's still a very real concept to a significant portion of the community. but at this point it's less about how "good" robtop's system is and more about how to coexist in the community. i think there's a real responsibility (small or large) to interact with the rest of the gd community in a way that's kind, accessible and overall mindful. by ignoring a level's mythic rating when talking about it you are leaving out important information. if you really dislike the system so much then why not address it ? obviously it's not practical to voice your opinion every single time you should mention the rating. but to never care about it and never mention it is equally as bad in my opinion ! this philosophy of mine is particularly loose in a lot of areas and i know my phrasing isn't good but i hope you can find a satisfying interpretation within my words that fits you. i don't believe in taste i don't believe in the concept of having a certain taste in art or actually a better way to put it would be i don't think about art in that way no ! not at all ! when it comes to art i believe there is: objects (artworks), input, interpretation, output and a few extra things sprinkled around i try not to get much more specific than that that's not what i said but i do in fact reject that idea well i don't believe in proper objectivity or subjectivity in art and therefore i don't believe in opinions. again, i don't reject the existence of these things. i simply don't like to think in that mindset what ? this ^^^ when i think about art i try not to use many concrete systems or rules. i guess i think about it abstractly in a way that doesn't require the use of all those concepts ? it's hard to explain and that's kind of the point. the more abstract my thinking is, the further it is from language. the only thing that deviates from language is the thinking that happens inside my brain. i meant that i struggle to translate my thinking into language but it has nothing to do with the conclusions i make from said thinking. it wasn't an important detail to mention. don't overthink it. i don't think i reject the idea of a base. i fully agree with this ! (i believe it to be true) i am not saying he should not get criticism. i do not think there is anything inherently wrong about criticism. but it is wrong to be rude to him about it. and that criticism can be received or ignored. yes, but keep in mind the “issues” are subjective. it is not like it is a real negative i think deflecting criticism to one’s own art is a valid response i guess it is fine if you disagree with me on that such a label does not come off as negative to me dude. this is art there is nothing wrong with being like this in the context of art you know that is not what i meant. it was just an expression. sorry i was trying to say like “it is art, this way of acting is not problematic because art is subjective and value is decided by the artist” ok yeah i think this is the root of the disagreement i fundamentally disagree with that statement lol i am not being completely honest when i say value is decided by the artist here either, though. the truth is i do not think it is tied to either one in a ok no need to finish typing that this is what i was about to say but i think the point is that the value of an artwork cannot be stripped away from the artist. the consumer can have influence on the value but the artist can never lose control (you could argue that this doesn’t count as “not complete control either way”) it makes sense to me that the value can never escape the control of the artist because they own the work of art. but at the same time we have gotten to the point where i do not have any concrete arguments for why value should be thought of in this way. it is just kinda what i believe. it is fundamental to my mind if i really wanted to get into this statement (which i do) then i would have to realize that value is not the only thing at play here. uh there are a large number of complications and i run into semantics and it all gets very philosophical and “fizzily.” i have thought and still am thinking about this topic but i simply do not feel qualified to go deeper. but man it is so interesting https://tenor.com/view/wumpus-kill-wumpus-wumpus-fan-good-wumpus-is-good-gif-24280076 https://tenor.com/view/wumpus-discord-discord-mascot-gif-6250816392645035507 did anyone send this one yet yeah i think i do not like that version as much as this one when will they make an apple level neither good nor bad amazing you know me too well so amazing gg on peak ! ! ! Or something. | hi ! this next part of my bio will not be any of my words from the hyperbolus discord server but rather my words from a conversation i had with my friend while reflecting on the discussion between me and @hidden4125 about art. even if i do not talk directly with @hidden4125 about this matter again, i at least want to leave a follow-up to be discovered as i now disagree with some of my past words. | | i got extremely distracted thinking about art again | specifically [my disagreement with @hidden4125 about onilink's aversion to criticism] | i think i have made good progress building my conceptual map of the subject | i think that, in the simplest terms, there are 3 things to worry about in the context of art: | 1. the artist | 2. the artwork | 3. the audience | and all of those things are connected in a certain way | • the artwork is connected to both the artist and audience through meaning which ultimately gives the artwork value. i know for a fact that value is influenced by the audience but i do not know how big an influence the artist has on the value. | • the artwork is connected to the artist through intention which is basically the artist's concept of their own work and why they did it and all that. | • the artwork is connected to the audience through interpretation which is distinct from intention. if the artist's intention is not explicitly shared then there is zero way for the audience to know if their interpretation aligns with what the artwork is meant to be.
