ElectricNJ, you know how to make a good level.
From my first decorated level, Qaue, to this is an unbelievable change. Very cliche at this point but there's a reason the contrast between the first and best levels in a creator's catalogue is so shocking
This is the level that I would change the least visually. Apart from some minor bits of song rep left out I genuinely think I'd leave this level as it is, which is definitely a first for me. However, what I don't really like as much is the progression, especially in the latter half. I think the level's runtime is rather short for such an amazing song but truthfully I got tired of building this, as seen by the rather rushed endscreen. The only other viable endpoint for the song is at the end of the 7 minute song so I guess it's not all my fault...
I also experimented with the gameplay quite a lot in this one, with mixed reception. Focusing on high-cps was very fun to play around with but my inability to structure and my abhorrent sense of rhythm made the parts focused on clicksync rather janky to play. I overall think the gameplay is pretty fun, and I got some playtesters to fix some difficulty spikes. The last wave was initially extreme demon difficulty partially due to it being modelled after Rage's wave part, and only after several iterations was it at an acceptable difficulty. Fun. My favourite gameplay section in this is probably the ship. It was the second hardest part to build (after the UFO which was painful), and I was inspired by a few Funnygame levels (and Unity by TriAxis and Funnygame) to come up with the idea.
Probably my best level so far, but still room for improvement. Also, I haven't checked to know for sure, but I am very certain this is one of, if not the least known level to appear in any GD awards video, ever. Shoutouts to Robert for placing this in the 25th page of the featured tab
this level goes hard
ElatedBlossomLTD is a level created by ElectricNJ. This level is such a unique work for me because it genuinely feels like something made in the 90s. A video-game, an anime, it just has the vibes.
Gameplay wise I'm conflicted. This level could have been a lot better if the gameplay was more straight forward. There are some really ankward inputs. The best example I can think off is the UFO part, where some clicks don't even work, straight up. Ive seen some people complain about the ship part, and I disagree. In fact, its one of the most fun parts when you learn how to get it right, which was very easy in my experience. Decoration wise, as I said before, this level is unique, it looks asian-texture (If this sounded racist my bad 🙏). Very traditional anime aesthetic, very ankward ideas that work well together. Well executions. This level is such a unique visual delight. This is very likely ElectricNJ's best so far in my opinion, looking forward for what he cooks next!
Goated. This is the type of artstyle experimentation I want to see more of in GD levels instead of just representational art of landscapes or machinery or whatever. This captures a vibe that really gels with GD's existing artstyle while also blazing a trail of its own, which is an elusive feat that only the likes of levels such as Black Blizzard or Out of this World are able to do so. It's also just hype as hell- the song choice and OS aesthetic makes this whole level feel exciting and fresh.
This is close for my favorite level from ElectricNJ, and if this level was only its second half it probably would be, but I think where this falters is that the parts in the first half are a bit monkey-pawed:
The first few parts of the level has fantastic gameplay and sync but it's aping a bit of the song's music video with the visuals, and the intro is a bit frustrating to play through over and over again.
The quiz section is a really novel concept (reminds me of those engagement bait posts about PEMDAS on twitter), but I think it suffers a lot from having the same three expressions instead of randomized ones, which might've been a bit more evil (good evil) and more engaging. This also takes the square motif from the music video but I think Electric recontextualizes it decently well.
Still, this is a great level despite my nitpicking of those two parts, and to reiterate, that second half is fantastic- such a fun and mystifying UFO part followed by a really hype wave part that takes a unique spin on the ornate structures seen in witness. Keep on killing it.
