i remember when this came out and immediately thinking "this is totally just using michis death for clout" and now knowing that it was indeed the case
lol
I have scoliosis 🤙
Ughhhhhhhhh.
I'd thought I would share a different opinion compared to other people when I first saw this level, but uh... nope, I am in heavy agreement with it's low as hell rating.
This is not a good tribute to Michigun at all. It doesn't even try to be a tribute. It's just... sigh. I can't believe this word is coming out of my mouth, but this right here? This is indeed a soulless level. Like, no passion coming out of this at all. It's just... a meaningless level that just feels like they were trying to gain attention by using his death as means for creator points.
Also, WHY THE FUCK ARE THERE RED ORBS NEXT TO THE TRIPLE SPIKES AT THE END????? LIKE HELLO??? WE ARE THE FUCKING ROBOT GAMEMODE, WHY THE FUCK DO WE NEED THE EXTRA ORBS???????
There is something ethically wrong with this. 1/10
It turns out the creator admitted it was made only for creator points. I moved the overall score down to 0 (before it was a 5). I’ll still keep what I wrote before down below, but it doesn’t accurately represent my thoughts currently.
Alright. Before I give my thoughts, I want to say something. This review is based on how good this plays as a tribute level, and not the creator’s intentions while creating this. I don’t exactly know this person, so I don’t want to make any assumptions based on evidence that may be groundless.
The decoration used in this level is quite flashy, which is an interesting choice - I’m not really sure how it ties into Michigan though. The creator most likely chose this to create a more “dramatic” style, to accompany the text that is shown on the screen. However, I’m not sure how I feel about the text. Especially when accompanied with the “dramatic” visuals, the message seems over-the-top, and therefore looses some of its meaning. To be honest, I feel like the level would feel better if it didn’t have the text at all, and instead highlighted more things about Michigan. The level’s main theme is around the triple spike, though it would be nice if the creator added other elements that are based on Michigan’s works. The gameplay is pretty good, but the visuals hinder it a lot. It consists of jumping over triple spikes (using a red orb to make it easier) and these invisible floating sections. I wish these floating sections were more sight readable though. The level also has a pretty nice end screen - if you turn on hitboxes, the level ends with an invisible triple spike. This is impossible to see otherwise, so I want to think that the creator added this detail because the creator cared, but it’s hard to tell the true intentions behind this level (and we are not going into that for reasons mentioned at the top).
Overall, as a tribute level, there is a lot of work that could be done to make it better. The visual style conflicts with the gameplay and falls short too. To be frank, I just wish that the level better showed the impart Michigan put on the community, even to this day.
