The abstract style of GD’s pre-1.9 era lends itself the best with concepts that can be executed in somewhat silly, but sincere ways that define and breathe life into the space the level takes place in. I think this level is exemplary in that regard- it’s a fun little 1.7 styled prison break, complete with jailcells and wardens. I think aside from a clear sense of progression this is fantastic as far as art levels go- the best quality being that it isn’t tainted by irony or bathos at all, compared to the way that themed story levels are nowadays; it feels like there is a good amount of care that went into executing this concept in a sincere, authentic manner. This is nigh imaginary in 2.2 since creators are a lot more irony-poisoned and insincere, so it feels very refreshing that there are still gems like these in the old era that get it right.
wspRocky has been on a roll since Greatest Hits, and this is no different. It seems so unassuming at first but it just feels so fun to watch and play. Such a charming level
