They say that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. While this level is literal garbage, it is my literal treasure.

“Garbage” is a term for something undesired and completely useless to someone. It’s something to be thrown out. The only value in garbage is what someone makes of. When a piece of art is described as “garbage”, it comes off as a very shallow criticism because it doesn’t say anything specific about the product, rather it simply indicates that it is worthless. The wordplay in the title pokes fun at these poor criticisms. While it has been done before with levels like Bli’s “Absolute Garbage” what helps this level stand out is the sheer commitment to its title in concept and execution.

The progression in the level feels vaguely like the process of trash being collected, compacted and dumped in landfills. Frankly, the decoration does not look good. At all. Throughout the level you are jumping across piles of random geometry dash objects placed around without any rhyme and reason, creatively conveying that these objects are trash that has been thrown out. I REALLY appreciate that the level does not try to sugarcoat what the stuff you are travelling through is. It does not try to make it look pretty. The style is completely unfiltered and dare I say “raw”. The level is uncaring about anything but achieving its goal, to show you just how harsh and lifeless its garbage is. The only objects in the level that feel vaguely clean are the trash compactors near the start, and they are still very basic and boring to look at. After all, there is mot much life in the heaps of trash that they process. It is not to be seen by public eye. As the level progresses, the level becomes even uglier, with clashing colours, hectic structuring and seemingly nonsensical object use as you are transported into the landfill and you travel deeper and deeper through it, the colours getting more and more repulsive. The decoration excellently compliments the title, as it is.. garbage after all.

This level earns the funny title much more than something like Absolute Garbage to me. While that level is very pretty, it doesn’t do anything interesting at all really with the name. It’s a well-polished industrial level with a funny name. Compared to this level, which is completely unabashed with the its nature, the commitment to the theme feels like night and day compared to Absolute Garbage.

As for gameplay, I haven’t been able to play too much of it so far but I enjoyed figuring out my way through the obstacles in practice mode. There’s an overwhelming feeling of the gameplay being unpolished and disorganized however. I think that’s brilliant theming wise, and it adds a sense of immersion as you have to constantly fight to make it through the disorganized garbage blocking your way. We’ll see what I think when I beat the level, which I definitely will.

Back to what I said at the start,  “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure”. Garbage only has value if someone makes value out of something worthless to someone else, and as a criticism, describing art as garbage inherently devalues it. This level looks bad and has very strange gameplay yet I can’t help but love it. To someone else it may be completely worthless but I personally find value in it. It’s my own treasure. I didn’t know any of Ydo’s levels before this (if so I only vaguely remember seeing them on twitter) but this is enough to make me a massive fan. Great work and I can’t wait to see what else you make!

I like this level because it looks pretty much just how I wanted it to look like from the start. I did exactly what I wanted to and I'm so proud of it :)

This is the best Robtop level in my opinion. It introduces the speed portals in such a suspenseful way. The level starts off slow, but quickly halts as you approach the double speed portal, creating suspense. Once you touch it, the level becomes faster and more intense. The level does not slow down at all, so the player has to get used to the faster speed. Then, after all of that, another speed portal is thrown at you. This is very overwhelming for the player, but not in a way that is unfair. The colours are bright and electrifying. I think what makes this level stands out to me is that it doesn't rely on mixing a lot of speed portals. It spoonfeeds the idea of speed portals to you while at the same time being a very difficult and rewarding challenge. The colour choice on this level is perfect for the tone of each part, and it really elevates the level as well

This is one of my favourite levels now. It does so much with so little. The gameplay is unique, having many different paths to day. The level manages to execute this without the gameplay feeling broken or unfair at all. It is something wholly unique, I can't think of anything quite like it. It astonishes me that this something this innovative can still be made to this day. The decoration serves this as well. Quazery has a very recognizable, simple style which I think shines the most in this level. I love the Robot and the ending in particular. The drop part is so gorgeous, with the blue sky, the shining sun and the rainbow blocks, it uses just the right amount of detail to sell the vibe amazingly. The ending is a great test of nerves and a payoff to the level. It's a free-form ship part, with the catch being that the stars have hitboxes. Overall, this level is such a heavenly experience, I recommend anyone to try it!

One of the best levels gameplay-wise in the game IMO. The gameplay is memory focused, which may bother some people, but it's easy to learn, actually fun to learn and it's INSANELY fun and satisfying! Tons of care went into making sure everything was fun to learn and play and it paid off!

The decoration is also amazing! It mixes design style with a heavenly theme. The extreme flashiness, colours and pulses go hand in hand to represent the song in an amazing way! I really appreciate the bright colors and intricate designs used here. The gameplay being so intense and fun really makes you feel like you are on "cloud nine"

I think all of you should give this a shot if you're good enough! You won't regret it!

I just found out about this level. HOW was this made in 1.9? The detail here is insanely ahead of it's time. It's a shame this creator is obscure. Also did OnlyTrying play the level with his eyes closed or something??

This is one of my favorite levels. While it doesn't have a lot of detail, its intense song and creative themes bring it up! It gives me a Renaissance Europe vibe. As the level goes on, it gets more and more chaotic. It starts with the player getting transported inside a music sheet leading to a creative and entrancing piano ship part, moving to a chaotic wave full of lightning, to a dual ball in the higher floors of what I interpret to be some temple, to a moment when the level gives the player a moment of clarity calm down as they reach a UFO part at the top. You may feel like you've escaped from the chaos below, but black bars close into the crashes of the song, giving you the signal that it is not over yet. This part made my jaw drop like an anvil when I first saw the level. You fall down a staircase, burning with anticipation for what the level has in store. The next part is a cathartic, hellish red-and-black part. The structuring and simple color scheme here are amazing. They help give a very evil and chaotic vibe. After it is all over, the level calms down, and you pass windows made out of black blocks, which I think is clever, then for the final part, you are back in the piano. Overall, I think this level is great at creating lots of feelings without the need for excessive detail, and at the same time leaves enough to extract a lot of imagination from you as you play. Great job, Funnygame!
