Genuinely one of my favorite levels of 2.2 so far. The atmosphere is absolutely impeccable, it really reminds me of Storm by Skywalker14 with the way it approaches its themes and buildup (even including a Godspeed You! Black Emperor reference at 70%, this level really reminds me of their work).
Everything feels desolate and bleak, the mysterious beings serving as the contrast, as they seem to bring light wherever they go, whether that means salvation or destruction is up to interpretation, but it seems to imply that they have a role in some sort of apocalyptic scenario.
It’s such a beautiful level that I really wanna go into more detail with eventually, but with all I can come up with for now, it’s easily my level of the year so far.
Another favorite of mine from Quid, some amazing song representation and neat gimmicks, especially love the part with the lanterns forming the gameplay and how the lights mimic the surround sound effects of the song.
A sprawling maze of vast, psychedelic landscapes that is as meticulous as it is mesmerizing.
I love levels that allow you to go all sorts of ways like this, it's something I haven't seen much since Dimension Machine and Castlemania, truth be told
Is it too early to call this level a classic? Easily one of the most fun and creative levels of 2.2 so far. Every puzzle feels really satisfying to figure out, and it all does this without sacrificing enjoyable gameplay. Highly recommend anyone to play this.
the one time I'll excuse AI being used in art.
I know what a lot of WHErwin said about this level applies to my thoughts about this, so I’ll post my comment from his video that I made some months ago here.
The ending to me could also link back to the section with the televisions earlier in the level, instead, there's nothing. No colors, no life, nothing broadcasted.
I interpret this as the idea that all of the conflict and chaos amounts to nothing, no matter which side you're on, no matter who believes they will save the nation when they're in power, all it will amount to is more division between these reds, blues and purples, no one will be completely satisfied and the cycle will continue. And thus it all fades to black, nothing being broadcasted as nothing matters to anyone anymore, staring into a blank channel with nothing to see.
(WHErwin’s) interpretation could also link into this, as political extremes eventually die down as well, both left and right, as the other side will eventually push back hard enough, much like a wildfire that ravages an overpopulated forest, it's all part of this almost natural cycle in the end.
The GD equivalent of Donnie Darko bombing in theatres but gaining a cult following through the DVD release
