Ztr is such a fucking anomaly in the community dude it’s crazy. So from what I remember when he was making this was that he was making something else entirely but scrapped it due to wanting to just not give a fuck which should be what the game lines itself with: there’s too many people who give so much of a fuck about rates and viewership (which I get the game promotes it in a way thats a little hard to reverse it at this point in time) and when people dont give a fuck and they get thrown into a crowd that does it gets messy. This getting rated idrc about but the reception it got online was so predictable LMAO

This was a very drab way to end the ncs singles and I say this due to the fact that for how well designed and mind blowing some of these levels were (Noel Electra, back on dash, skyline pt ii etc) this one is so dumbed down to me fsr. I don't hate the pixel blocks added to the game honestly I think it's a good thing to give people who don't do stuff like modern or effect for example the opportunity to spice it up, Debihan as an example makes good use of all the new blocks this update. A lot of the level feels like it's trying to be so much like a robtop level with your sprinkling of goofiness (which is fine it's a community made level) but I'd rather just have a robtop made level atp. Designs are polished which is nice and the ending portion with the spamming sections is very pleasing to the eyes but for an end to the event singles I just wasn't much of a fan. I feel like I was even less of a fan when this was given mythic on the note that it was the last ncs event single.
The communities hatred towards trans individuals has always been strange and it was especially strange the first time I remembered it being a big topic. I hope Shye has been doing well and I really wish she kept her art/music up on youtube, it was really nice!
With the level itself I enjoy coming back to this one and a few others from this creator, her 2.0 levels were really something else and this one is no different. The variety in designs throughout the whole level, the gameplay having this very consistent flow throughout, it's all very cohesive and charming. I think designs such as the ufos at 23% and 38% still hold up really well imo. My main gripes were mainly just wishing some of the parts that had less design simply had more and that there is a lack of pulsing that i feel like could've elevated the level nicely.
Funnygame up until 2.1 is debatably one of the most influential creators of all time. So many levels by him have had a great impact on creators of today whether it’s lonely travel, death moon, and even this. -Sirius- has some really neat designs for very early 2.0 as well as the iconic spiked bossfight. Visually this is still a stellar level, gameplay then and now has been very frustrating from the bossfight onwards which sucks for how good of a level it is otherwise.
I have to leave a rating which I kinda wish I didn’t have to cause for a level like this I don’t think it’s really right to rate this in terms of a level itself when its moreso the thought of the creator. I do think this is a good representation of feeling as if “high expectations from others will crush you” (paraphrasing PAHC’s review) as I can relate to how my mindset felt generally when I was in middle school. Really appreciate seeing levels such as these as it makes me know I’m not alone when I feel any kind of negative thoughts that can be seen as very bottom of the barrel.
Some people are a little overly-pretentious when it comes to Krmal's levels but I can't deny his 2.0-2.1 run was iconic. Hungry Humphrey is another silly level that has a few goofy sections to it: Humphrey is hungry, he eat the block design, he eat the saw, he go have frat party, you get shat out like some taco bell it's great. It's just a nice interesting level of it's time and that's about it, nothing particularly awful with it just not something that's godly either.
The more I look back on this level the more it reminds me of watching "Rent-a-Girlfriend" for the first time. Kazuya as a main character is supposed to be sympathized over which while initially I got it as he acts like how some people act irl with relationships. With that being said, Kazuya doesn't improve as a character and continuously acts like a simp sniveling roach that just makes the girls that surround him worse but also make the anime as a whole worse.
I relate "Rent-a-Girlfriend" to this because negative mindsets like these happen quite a bit to people in game, sometimes that makes it hard to find enjoyment in levels like these as they're a reality to some. WHYME comes off weirdly preachy at times due to the fact that TMN in this scenario makes some of the insults thrown at him that are shown in the level (as well as the thoughts that surround him due to the everchanging nature of the game) have a weirdly comical response when the level is clearly trying to be serious. I don't think this level has aged as well as I thought but I don't think it's as bad as some people make it out to be. This mindset is unhealthy though and the level shows why.

What WKGames misses entirely with why people view this level so negatively is the disingenuous nature given the shakey text with the black glow being used as this old timey filter, it just looks like a regular ass level that wouldn't mean anything if the text was gone. Being honest with you I don't mind using text in levels at all! Sometimes a thought is best represented through words; this does not really work in this case as it feels just like any other awarded tab level in the process. Matter of fact Michi's death (and I'm afraid this might happen with Bridget as well a little bit) shows the lengths of what people in this game will do for recognition even if it means to demean such a topic.
To this day my favorite 2.0 level, I think it's just the blend between that modern and design feel as well as feeling to free while playing it.
