i remember this level being memed on a lot when it came out. but with hindsight and viewing it as a pretty traditional geometry dash level experience, it’s definitely up there as a pretty damn good level from the 2.0 update.
the level doesn’t has so much in concept, being made to poke fun at people nostalgic for the aesthetics of the 1.9 update. all we really get here is 1.0 styled structuring with minor 2.0 trigger usage for flare. despite that though, it helps the level age better than many of its earlier contemporaries in the 2.0 update. 1.0 styled levels are still a pretty sizable part of the creating consciousness today (such as omorfia and aleph 0…), and it’s not bound by all of the earnest ugly experimentation that dominated much of the update. in fact id say it makes for a pretty holistic “traditional” geometry dash experience, which i suppose is the point of the level.
with the visuals being as basic as they are, it gives a very big focus on the gameplay of the level... and its pretty damn good! triaxis always had a knack for really fun easy gameplay that flowed extremely well--especially for being made in 2.0--and this level is no exception.
aesthetically, this level is nearly perfect. everything that makes velocity : design : comfort as an album so special most certainly applies here. on a conceptual level though, it lies a bit flat.
this level is brimming with ideas, but the execution and combination of these ideas isn't always the best it could be. there are some weird decisions made in the level's presentation, in many parts.
i still of course want to commend the creator's creativity with this level though. in terms of making this level weird like the song is, wyntaee did it gracefully.
i want to love this level, i really do, and some of the parts in this level are really, really great. but these things push the level back from being truly great for me personally.
probably the culmination of krmal's efforts as a creator. to think that this level was created right before the advent of 2.1 is really remarkable considering how well this level has aged. so much about this level is iconic to all hell--the first cube, the theming, the dual... its really showed how dominant of a force krmal was and still is on the community.
this level takes the original troll level, which i felt was pretty boring, and amps up the energy to 11. id say its pretty comparable to totally legit level, just with a different and refined aesthetic overlay that pays homage to the modern day post-ironic meme culture.
the no frills energy of this thing is nothing to be scoffed at, and from what ive heard its damn difficult too. such a shame that itll likely never be rated though
this level doesn’t give a flying fuck about what you want out of a level while still being well versed in community expectations. it comes off as extremely fun and unhinged in a way thats really hard to find anywhere else. not even the fan-remake super probably level could reach this level of insanity in my opinion.
like... who the hell comes up with the distractions in the robot part at the first drop? a ship part where you have to collect like a billion potions?? spelling out the name of the song in the level???
the creator of the level streamed himself building the level, and its pretty clear he really enjoyed the making of it. if you can find it i recommend watching it (i dont know if its up anywhere anymore though)
a very meditative level.
wless has always been a very interesting creator to me in what he brings to the table; his stance on levels as an art form has plagued the twitter discourse for years. with im god, he created something here that went against the grain of what people expect out of a level, almost comparable to a layout. even with such a bare-bones aesthetic, it's fleshed out with minor flourishes like a light haze and reflected structures, making it come off as having been genuinely thought out. it's not really like other levels that quite literally are just overdecorated layouts (though aleph 0 is a very notable exception).
the light decoration lends itself into an almost dreamlike level that is such a smooth watch. really the only nitpick i have is the ship camera controls which are obviously very janky thanks to it being made in 2.1. this level says all that it really needs to, and nothing else. and i think that’s kind of special.
