(re-review)
i’ll keep it brief: toxick future is one of my favourite levels (Unironically!)
The visuals are absolutely horrendous even for 2.0 standards, with the vomit green covering my whole phone.
Gameplay itself is actually pretty fun despite its easy-ness (if that is a word). It has some good ideas as well.
Shame that the song was deleted (I don’t even know why)
this level has really fun gameplay and is extremely sightreadable for a 9*. the decoration is admittedly pretty generic but it doesn't harm the level. coins are pretty average but coin 2 is a fun challenge.
i asked copilot to write a review on this (it fits thematically)
Not really...I have time on my hands anyways
COPYCAT is (for those who don't know) Vegtam's entry into AudieoVisual's Sampling CC. It uses the idea of sampling in a very creative way with the theme being that malware (you) is trying to infiltrate a fictional AI database containing assets from a bunch of levels. As Vegtam said himself, he used the idea of sampling/AI as a medium to talk about how AI profits and uses works from artists without their consent. The decoration and asset usage is surprisingly creative (ironically), and the credit sequence is pretty good too.
Gameplay-wise it's roughly 9/10 star gameplay throughout, and it's not very long due to the intro and outro taking quite a bit of the runtime. However a lot of the drop is spam or buffering which could definitely be improved upon.
(8.5)
the decoration is consistently 7/10 throughout 11 minutes. the sheer scale of that is genuinely astounding. the gameplay also maintains good quality as well, and it has good song representation too.
pretty fun flow gameplay throughout with great music sync. decoration is a bit plain but gets progressively better imo. only complaint is the ship at 60ish being harder than the rest of the level.
questioning why it wasn’t featured though
NGT is a collab team. But it’s a…GOOD collab team? I don’t know how that’s possible. I checked out some of their other levels and they seem to be of decent and consistent quality. They definitely feel like levels made with passion, especially stuff like this.
Kapoeira Phonk is definitely no exception. The song is probably the worst part of the level though.
In terms of gameplay KP has pretty good balancing and music sync. It’s pretty short but I think that’s fine because it ramps up near the end.
Decoration-wise it’s kinda “generic glow style” but I think it’s executed pretty well, and the flashiness complements the song too. KP also uses 2.2 stuff (mainly camera controls and shaders) pretty responsibly compared to some Epic or Legendary levels.
Overall, Kapoeira Phonk is a decently fun level and I recommend you check out NGT’s other collabs (not sponsored)
Skibidi Factory is probably 0ek’s best level to date and his (well-deserved) 1st feature. I do wish it was still called Child Labor Inc. but it got dislikebotted to oblivion twice and had to be reuploaded as well. The gameplay is very fun with good music sync - my only complaint is this one orb/portal timing near the end that I always seem to die to.
Visually Skibidi Factory is very nice as well, with consistent quality throughout and some cool easter eggs in the signage. The level’s plot effectively revolves around exploring some sort of sweatshop and the big boss man wants to kill you with his hydraulic presses. The visuals match the intensity of the level and song pretty well and I have no complaints.
I’m glad 0ek was also able to express his frustration with the rating system through this level (read the monologue after the level ending) since many of his points I do agree with (favouritism, the effectively luck-based send/rate system). This level took 10+ sends, 2 reuploads and almost 2 months to get rated which is truly a testament to what he is saying. And if you’re wondering this level contains a SINGLE reference to Skibidi Toilet (for less than a second).
