congrats yoreid and airz you made a banger
the visuals are incredibly clean with no bad parts at all, each part ties into the next pretty well (except maybe the first part into the second). the cannon part is probably one of the best transitions in any gd level (even if it lags). the animations are also illegally smooth in the bossfight especially.
gameplay wise it’s pretty good, only real problem is with the boss and the ending. the ending is very much a chokepoint and doesn’t really feel that nice to play through even if it syncs well. the boss is also very unbalanced. the skeleton’s attacks can either be free or impossible to avoid, and the little skeletons are so free as well. i wish that the big one had set patterns BUT played in a random order each time (think casino blitz’ ending). obviously yoreid can’t go back and update the level so…it is what it is.
One of my favourite modern demons in GD, even if the newgens on TikTok glaze it so much
what 16lord said (-1 point for inverted slopes in that one wave part)
the gameplay is mostly quite simple but beginner friendly, which is pretty nice. the song representation is immaculate as well. visuals are way ahead of anything else up until 2.1 released.
nothing to hate here, and even the fact that this is an official part of the game (through gauntlets) is crazy
it’s too close to what it tries to spoof it ends up being actually bad
(rewritten to be an actual review) HEAVY HEAVY HEAVY SPOILER WARNING
WOW. This is a genuine contender for best level of 2.2. I hadn't even known that Mattew made a new level until I saw Viprin's video. I only saw the beginning but that was enough to convince me to play it. I beat the level in around 20 minutes, and those were the best 20 minutes of my life. The visuals are impressive, though one part had to be censored (which goes against the level's principle of "f#%k it all, we make art") due to salty mods. The gameplay entirely consists of several boss-like encounters. Each boss has its own gimmick that helps it stand out from the rest. It's really fun to learn their different patterns and adapt each time you die. My best time is 16:22, try to beat it. Overall, I'm glad this got mythic for the sake of Mattew and the GD community.

fancy desert bus
update; new score + actual review
Ah, Out of Place. One of the few levels over 3 minutes that doesn’t drag on. For its almost 4 minute runtime the only parts I feel are filler are the beginning and the one part with the sun artwork.
Luckily those parts have the best visuals of the whole level, so you at least have something to look at (hence “fancy desert bus”). As djudjeito said, the gameplay is intentionally very simple and easy because he wanted to focus on visuals, which is pretty respectable. Normally I would give this gameplay a low rating but the purpose of the gameplay means I will rate it higher. The song representation is also insane, and Out of Place is a banger song too
As for being a space-themed level, it doesn’t really do that. Sure, there are some “spacey” parts but this feels more like a celebration of art (What with the Renaissance-style sculptures) as a whole. That’s probably why it placed 7th and was the lowest-placed mythic overall (it’s called the SPACE gauntlet for a reason)
probably the funniest and funnest mythic in gd so far
visually it’s not too different from the usual pixel style, but i feel this is fine because the gameplay mostly makes up for it. the only gripes i have with said gameplay is the volcano part being a PAIN on mobile, and the long, unskippable cutscenes. like goddamn i do not need to see mrnexis being brutally killed. funny plot though
i’ll admit yea this is kinda trope spam and random ideas but that’s what it is fundamentally meant to be. keeping the score
Might be heavily overrated but this clears Sky Tower neg diff. Decoration is far less obstructive which is better for this level’s 3 minute runtime. Gameplay wise this is probably Rafer’s best work. The music sync and gameplay design perfectly match the song and it feels like you’re really there escaping the island. Feels like something out of an action movie and I love action movies.
