Hard to look at; otherwise forgettable.
If Sonic Wave was L1 is your average “why is this rated?” level, except it’s below average because it slows down the wave parts, killing the energy Sonic Wave is known for.
Call it a skill issue, but the gameplay holds this back for me. Some timings feel out of place, and overall, it seems more unfair than it was probably meant to be. I don’t think the 61 genuine dislikes on it are completely warranted, but I feel this would greatly benefit from an update.
Given its presence in a Waboo contest, it’s hard for me to view this as anything but a rehash of Rage Quit, which already had problems. The boss is annoying to learn for a 5★. The Deadlocked vs iSpy part also feels like an attempt to appeal to younger players, as if jingling keys in front of them wasn’t enough. The only credit I can give this level is that the main level screen and online levels list look accurate… do you know how funny that is? That the only thing I can credit a level for is doing a better job at tracing GD’s menus than other levels? And then it still managed to get the fake end wall and end screen very wrong :(
I think there’s a lot of unexplored potential here that isn’t being used.
This is mostly a redeco of Arbelos’ level of the same name, but with a different ending. They did redecorate enough to make it stand out, but I don’t understand what the thought process behind this was (why redecorate a classic 1.9 level in a less memorable 1.9 style?), or why they wanted this of all things to be their first rated level. Definitely one of the less necessary remakes I’ve seen.
I love how this subtly incorporates design elements from 1.5 to 1.8 into Clutterfunk. Found it fairly enjoyable as well!
